Edinburgh - new club...

For a few years now I've been toying with the idea of starting a new adults club in Edinburgh.

Obv there are certain regulations / things we need To overcome from the council etc.

But, what would you like to see at a club?

Edinburgh

Foremost, professionalism, high hygiene, safety, discretion.

That's all I can think of just now

Would be nice if it wasn't in Edinburgh - the north east is crying out for a club since the closure of Aberdeen and for some Glasgow is too far to travel

There seems to be more and more of these threads.

buisness rarely does well with a "toying with an idea" mentality. If you are really considering it check the setup cost and permits req will probably put you off the idea.

Qhy not start simple with a inv only party type scenario

Equal entry fees for single guys and single females.

Of course that goes without saying.

It would be a members only club.

I know club's like After 8 are members only and I've not been there for many years due to the fact that I didn't enjoy it. I found the interior dates, quite dirty and often filled with males to a ratio of 10/1 on woman.

We would go down the route of having a bar license.

"Of course that goes without saying.

And from what Kola said.

May be try organising a Social and see how you get on with that first to get a firm idea.

4 of us organising the Dundee Social for 90 and then 70 people wasn't a walk in the park lol so imagine organising something 1/2/3 times a week!

Could you commit to that between family and work!

But we defo need more choice in Scotland that's for sure.

Good luck OP.

Thank you.

Will take it on board.

I want a room for massage, hot tub, etc.

Maybe not a proper club scene but a dance floor too.

If there was a hot tub and sauna we would definitely be interested, it's what we loved about Aberdeen. I'd be less interested in a nightclub type atmosphere, can't relax and get to know people when you're having to shout at each other

Suppose it would all be to do with what location we got.

What's the going rate for memberships just now at clubs

There's a big element of hygiene with a hot tub etc. Especially with the things that go on in swingers clubs. There use to be one in the Aberdeen club but I never used it. People use to get rashes from sitting in it x

I'm not pissing on your parade or anything... Genuinely interested, if this is something you're serious about would you not already have done your research regarding membership rates etc?

Is the club scene busy enough for a second club in Edinburgh? Never been to after8 so don't know how busy it is.

This.... it's a great idea but you need a serious business proposal and understanding your market. If it was that easy I think there would be a lot more people doing it.

Good luck though

Good luck with that... The council in Edinburgh don't give out new licenses very often and with it being a private swinging club you've even less chance. This is why most clubs have a bring your own policy.

A classy club in Edinburgh would be potetially very popular and successful. A decent clib would probably close the competition down.

Think if you want to see how and what people want, go down south and visit the clubs down there take their ideas pick their brains and then go with that. Asking in here will get you the general things that people want, ask those that have done it in the past and ask them if things like hottubs sauna etc worked and were cost effective. They may be nice to haves but as mentioned earlier the upkeep and the health issues associated put some people off, and not just of STIs etc.

A lit meeting area, pool tables or similar where you can chat and get to know people and a range of play areas would be good. A membership would be good and also limits on numbers attending and mix of couples, females and males need to be done correctly and adhered to. Strict dress codes stop people from turning up in work clothes trainers etc. And until you get the clientele to act in a mature non pushy type way a level of security to ensure it is a hassle free experience.

Maybe I picked it up wrong, you said goes without saying that single guys n fems pay same entry fee, then raised issue with being a ratio of 10/1 . Can't be both ways,

I hope you try this. I am 100% straight but understand that the Aberdeen club abd after8 operated as gay saunas daytimes. So subsidised the running costs. Neither were that busy when they opened as swingers clubs. Having benn to clubs down south I would echo the comments about hot tubs. Great fun but a HSE nightmare. Try renting a holiday cottage first and see how it goes. Most couples prefer to play away and not in their home town. So somewhere in Perth would suit most people. Good luck mate.

Aberdeen was usually quite busy any time I attended.

Good luck with your venture, if it's a bit nearer than after8 and CJs i'd certainly check it out

Was just thinking the same. Surely you can do searches online for membership fees, entrance charges, what's on offer at other clubs.

A jacuzzi would need to be kept exceptionally clean. Alcohol and water are not a good mix either. Who is going to ensure the safety of those using it? Having been a qualified lifeguard I'd be wary of using it.

Personally I didn't like After8 so the membership wasn't used after the initial use. CJ's isn't perfect either.

You need to decide what you're going to offer. Permanent premises or holding events in hired venues? Having a drinks licence will also mean you need to abide by licensing laws which may prove tricky when the venue is open late.

Seems like you are testing the water but definitely need to do your research and make a business plan.
