Has it been lost? Not all about presents how much money you spend.

It's time to spend with family actually sit down at a table and eat and talk. Not texting actually spending time together.

Remembering those less fortunate in out community people who are lonely, homeless, children in care .

This Christmas iv decided to give a few hours to my local church who are putting on a free Christmas lunch for over 70 people for the less fortunate .

Also it's baby jesus birthday too.

It is indeed a time for thinking a wee bit deeper about what really matters in life. What you have as opposed to what you don't... A time perhaps for walking that proverbial mile in someone else's shoes before judging... that way you'll be a mile away AND you'll have their shoes

Seriously though... a lovely post and well done on giving some of your time to do something for others. Merry Christmas to you and everyone else too

It's a human construct designed to break up the long winter months and dark nights.

Romans celebrated saturnala, which was basically gorging, orgying and human sacrifice.

The celebrations took place from December 17th to 25th.

The Christmas tree is also rooted in Roman, pagan and druid history.

Mistletoe is a Norse tradition ...of killing enemies with arrows tipped with mistletoe poison.

Kissing under the mistletoe is an amalgamation of avoiding the poison and the saturnalia orgying.

Christmas presents were originally a ploy to force the enemies of wealthy Romans to spend and be impoverished. The gifts were called tributes and where enforced, not voluntary.

Santa, or St Nicholas, was the Turkish Bishop of Myra and only became a saint less than 200 years ago.

The Bavarian illustrator Thomas Nast almost completed the modern picture of Santa Claus. From 1862 through 1886, based on Moore’s poem, Nast drew more than 2,200 cartoon images of Santa for Harper’s Weekly. Before Nast, Saint Nicholas had been pictured as everything from a stern looking bishop to a gnome-like figure in a frock. Nast also gave Santa a home at the North Pole, his workshop filled with elves, and his list of the good and bad children of the world.

All Santa was missing was his red outfit.

In 1931, the Coca Cola Corporation contracted the Swedish commercial artist Haddon Sundblom to create a -drinking Santa. Sundblom modeled his Santa on his friend Lou Prentice, chosen for his cheerful, chubby face. The corporation insisted that Santa’s fur-trimmed suit be bright, Coca Cola red. And Santa was born – a blend of Christian crusader, pagan god, and commercial idol.

I'm also available for children's parties, barmitzvas and, er, Christmas.

Fantastic, I couldn't agree more with you. Well Done you for getting stuck in and volunteering to help make a difference.

This year, I've taken two lonely elderly ladies out for Christmas lunch and donated to a Mary's Meals.

Merry Christmas OP.

Its always great to give something back. Especially to people who may not be surrounded by thier families. I am fortunate to have a lovely family who i will get together with on boxing day as i am working Christmas day. Its not a hardship to help other's have a special time too

“Do good, and disappear.” – Genevieve Hennet De Goutel (1886-1917)

Here's to those who keep the true meaning of Christmas throughout each and every year by their love and kindness. I know many of them...unsung heroes all.

25th of Dec is a pagan religious birthday of the sun.

If anyone has read the bible it's said John the Baptist was about 3 months old when Jesus was born John was born at the end of June and it says the shepherds where in the field with their flock when Jesus was born shepherds didn't do this in Dec

It is a time to reflect.

I try to fit in something 'good for the soul' at this time. Example - I donate to a food bank, take food to the local sspca, and I did a shift for Glasgow City Mission.

I find this time of year difficult so I work a lot of it too.

Thank you. The first year I volunteered it was so good, but so very sad too.

People, some through no fault of their own there living a daily struggle, when I have a roof over my head and enough food to eat. Some of them you would have broken your heart over.
