Anyone got them or getting them?

What are your feelings about them in general?

They dont put nothing in for free unless its going to save them money. There will be new tarriffs coming out soon... with these meters

Works as a normal meter except it connects to mobile signals to send readings away

I have one they are fine if keep topped up.

If gas runs out its a pain to get back on. Electricity is no problem and cab top them up via mobile so no need to go to the shop

It's not a prepay Meter. It's a smart Meter. Sends data direct to energy supplier. No more Meter readings or estimates. You also get a monitor that tells you how much you spend, on what and at what time

We have them they are fine not any different really except you get a monitor that shows you how much you are using. You can top them up from your phone so takes away the need to run to the shop if it runs out of credit

It is still a basic pre pay meter just an electronic one you dont need to put the card or key in but you still need to top it up it just sends the data to the meter and not the card/key

A smart meter send meter reads up to half hourly too your energy provider. You have more control over your power as you can see instantly on the wee gadget precisely what you are using. Amazing watching the spikes when you lit the kettle on. You don't actually realise what specific things use.

Jury is out in my mind on if it will make you more energy conscious though.

I will not be getting one until forced too. I dont need to save energy, I only use what i need. I dont need to know my bill by the hour. And the only one saving money is the provider as they can ditch all the meter readers and save all the wages.

In the USA people found their bills went up as they were getting under-billed on the less accurate old ones. Google it

Mine is a pre pay one. I have the wee monitor it tells you how much you have left.

Utillita put mines in. I thibk I use more now than did previously

They may well seems signals/readings half hourly.. But it turns out your supplier will disregard all except one on the day it needs one. Which to my mind makes the installation pointless.

Changed suppliers and expected existing supplier to have a very accurate record of my closing reading. Nope. Had to go throughout 3 months in limbo as they negotiated readings with new supplier. Completely dumb and in efficient having these.

Germany has banned these smart meters due to safety concerns. This is just another way for a private company to make a profit thanks to sweet deals with the government and this compulsory roll out!

On a serious note, the reason they like to put folk on Smart Meters is so folk disconnect themselves not the energy company. Other than that great for folk who like to budget & pay as they use.

A few years ago a electrician from Scottish power was out to fix a problem at my house and told not to get a new smart meter there was a risk of cancer a few guys working with them and some households had reported problems the guy says lucky company played down the scare
