I really fancy making some infused spirits for the festive season.

So other than the usual sloe gin, fruit vodkas etc what more unusual combinations have you tried that have worked well.... and what flavour combinations should I avoid experimenting with?

Skittles vodka? Make sure you pour the mixture through a coffee filter - clears up the vodka nicely.

You can do different flavours by using the various colours or a mixed flavour.

I usually flavour with fruits. I find it works best.

Not many herbs work apart from Fresh Mint.

White rum with a well dosed pinch of chilli is nice. Better if you use a old yellow/brown rum. But too much chilli and its ruin.

Vanilla pods, cinnamon sticks and a couple nutmegs could work too but not tried, just the vanilla.

I need to start my batches soon too ready for Xmas takes a good 5 weeks to mature!

Enjoy experimenting.

Remember to cut the vanilla in half to release the aroma

If you're making skittles vodka I recommend splitting the skittles up into their different colours first as opposed to putting the whole bag in speaking from d*unken experience

I find skittles vodka works best with the green and red ones. 2 bags worth per half bottle of vodka makes for a nice strong colour, taste and smell after less than a week! Green skittles vodka and lemonade is delicious

My ex father in law made raspberry chilli vodka.

Not my thing, but daughter and her pals loved it!

Toffee vodka is lovely

Bottle of vodka and 3 family bags of werthers original put it all in an airtight jar and shake twice a day for a week till the sweets dissolve,

It's great as shots

For those who don't like vodka.

Raspberries or passion fruit works brilliantly with white rum. And use golden cane sugar

Although im going to have a dabble at making some flavoured vodka im not a vodka drinker myself. I prefer rum or gin.

Im going to make some raspberry gin and some blueberry gin. I currently have some bramble gin which is lush (although it was shop bought).
