There is a post going around facebook with the Argintinian team proudly displaying a political banner on the pitch.

FIFA seem to think this is OK.

They should be allowed to wear it with pride.

They should wear them with pride and every support going to the match should buy a couple of extra Poppy's and on kick off they should throw them onto the park turning theWembley pitch red. Would also raise a fortune for the poppy appeal

Football is a universal sport and crosses many barriers such as language and ability. The game should be celebrating what it can do in war torn countries as well supporting those who have fought and died or been injured in conflict for our country.

Football can provide an opportunity for those who have nothing but their own skill to have a future. It is a lifeline for millions of people who play and support the game. Let the teams wear the poppy with pride.

The poppy should be optional. Last year i wore the white one and a few people got a bit annoyed. But people have right to their own beliefs. There are 3 parts to the meaning of White Poppies: they represent remembrance for all victims of war, a commitment to peace and a challenge to attempts to glamourise or celebrate war

personally I don't like them at all and don't wear one because I feel they glamorise soldiers and war and cause people remember the hatred as much as the victims. the white is a step in fixing this but the symbolism is unfortunately still the same

but Its none of my business or anyone elses what people choose to honor and they should do what they feel is right and to hell with the rules

Should be allowed to wear them if they want but also need to adhere to the rules regardless of how stupid they are. Tbh though the whole things a bit of a non story anyway, Scotland and England will be fine regardless of what they decide to do as I understand FIFA can only act if an official complaint is put to them from a member organisation. Scottish and English FA's are hardly likely to 'grass' each other in when they are both doing the same thing are they. My concern is my team (Wales) do decide to wear them and the Serbian FA complain.....

To wear a poppy is personal choice and no governing body should be saying anything about it. As for glamourising and promoting war what nonsense sometimes to many folk talk mince then turn something good sour. A poppy is for remembrance not promotion of conflict its not just for allied troops or even just for troops. Its to remember those who paid the ultimate price irrespective of borders or ethnicity.

Thats my understanding of it anyway from the reading I have done online. Would also explain why Republic of Ireland are now under investigation for commemorating the anniversary of the easter rising on shirts back in March. FIFA couldn't do anything cos nobody complained well that was until the Scottish and English FA's used it as an example of them showing certain countries leniency and brought it to FIFA's attention lol

I will be wearing one with both pride and sadness

I lost my Brother in Iraq (kia) and my Grandfather in WW2 (kia)

I will wear and think of both -them and their "brothers in arms"

whether the footballers wear or not is entirely up to them, not fifa, not their manager or anyone else

everyone in life can make their own decisions and should stand by them

The real irony of this faux outrage is that the rule wasnt created by FIFA (at least not them alone) it was IFAB.

The permanant members of IFAB are:

FIFA

English FA

Scottish FA

Welsh FA

N. Ireland FA

so, essentially they are throwing the toys out of the pram when a rule they created is applied to them

Not really, it is Fifa that has decided the poppy is a religious or political symbol. The rule is fine, it's the interpretation

The thing about FIFA is stupid it's just a poppy why even cause an issue over it, but no1 in ww2 thought for us or our freedom

As ma grandad always said, they weren't thinkin about future generations they didn't even want to fight, they were forced to fight or go to prison we weren't brave we were stuck between a rock and a hard place "and am pretty sure back then the prison part really just meant a firing squad"

They fought for themselves no us

Btw before anyone starts on me for this ma grandad was in ww2 and he said this stuff am just repeating.

Ex-forces myself ,so wear mine with pride every year. It is for individuals to decide wether to wear one or not however it is a symbol for those that have given their lives for others, and in my mind and many others,there is no greater sacrifice than losing your life when serving your country for the greater good.

As much as I'd love to see Scotland win and as bad as this England team currently are it would take a huge upset for Scotland to get anything from this game. Scotland will have to play better than they have in a couple of years and England will need to be worse than they were against Iceland. Problem with Scotland is they tend to play quite well when nothing is at stake but shit themselves when it means something. How many campaigns end with Scotland starting to play well when qualification has gone only for the next campaign to start up with all the usual issues.

It is a personal choice as is everything in life! However the amount of young men who died in both world wars so that we have the freedoms of both speech and personal choice to me means that we should remember them!

Not a family in Scotland won't have lost a son, father, brother, cousin or friend!

That's a lot of sweeping generalisations based on your grandfathers opinions. It's also a lie as people weren't put up against a firing squad in WW2 for their actions.
