I really should watch the news more...

Just got off phone to my daughter who lives in Edinburgh n she was telling me about this, apparently people dressed as clowns chasing folk down the street.

I would freak out if this happened to me!

i am absolutely petrified of clowns...so they wouldnt need to harm my i would literally pass out if one stood in front of me...

ive already banned my two from going trick or treating this year for the very reason thats its just not safe....even in a small town like mine its happening just a few miles away....

idiots need to get a grip!

Its been happening for years, mainly in the states or eastern european countries, but everywhere has done it once or twice at least lol. Its a little funny I think... though shouldn't be done on randoms.. more friends if anything but if ya search youtube for "killer clown prank" you'll see loads of videos for few years back

Yeah! It has been around for years.

I thought the trend had died down by now... obviously not!

Happened in France a couple years ago and they also got arrested. The clowns mainly targeted children walking home alone after school!

The ones I have seen many years ago when it started were people pranking their own friends and not random people and kids!

When it's not involving threat, weapons or kids/elderly we find it fun, creepy but it's somewhat festive given it's nearly Halloween. We're talking about the harmless, standing around just being creepy kind.

People will, of course, take it too far and ruin it.

Has any been seen in Glasgow? Might go for a drive this weekend and see if we can spot any.

Also, Harley Quinn is essentially a clown and no doubt there'll be one or five at CJ's

Personally more alarmed and frightened by the amount of people who think a violent response is appropriate, both here and elsewhere.

A guy in a creepy costume trying to frighten/prank is obviously scary. Hell, we've travelled quite far to visit the best horror attractions for the fun of this.

Much more afraid of "regular" people who are violent or prone to violent behaviour. Has very bad experiences of violence.

There's been instances of more sinister motivation than just setting out to prank or scare people. Eejits...sorry, clowns carrying claw hammers or machetes. You have two choices, fight or flight. If you are burdened with shopping or children, it wouldn't be easy to run.

If this clowning around continues, it will add a new risk factor to dogging and outdoor meets.

The police have stated not to respond violently as that it self is a crime and regardless of what motivation you have you will be prosecuted. There is no self-defense exemption in Scottish law.

And we have every right to be concerned about such bravado and blasé attitude towards violence. When you have been attacked severely, by people who justified it by means which were legitimate to them and still think it's ok to assault people then that's up to you.

Condemning the clowns but celebrating people actually committing assault, both are as bad.

The media has run riot with this, according to the statement released yesterday no clowns have actually hurt anyone. What if your kid, thinking it was funny, went put as a clown with their friends and someone beat them within an inch of their life. Not the smartest thing to do, sure, but people do dumb things all the time.
