I witnessed a railway suicide last week - it was horrific and far messier than you'd imagine. More like an explosion.. I've been left with a lot of anxiety and panic. Has anyone else been through a major trauma like that? How did you get over it?

(I know this isn't "sexy" but you're a good bunch of people. I thought you might have advice)

speak to your GP, they can prescribe something that may help and offer counselling. Try Cruise or they can refer you to someone else.

good luck.

That sounds awful. Please talk to your gp, or perhaps the Samaritans? They are excellent to talk to.

Much love x

Glad to say I've never witnessed it, but my nephew who was the train driver did first hand. He needed a lot of counselling and couldn't go back to driving, he has rebuilt his life and still works for the railway, I don't think he'll ever get over it, but has learned to live with it. My heart goes out to you. Xx

Seriously. Go see your GP, sooner rather than later.

I've seen countless people with PTSD try to hide it or avoid dealing with it. Never ends well.

I'm not sure if this is right or wrong... boobs probably has it right-you do need professional counselling, it will be there for you in whichever way you seek it.

From a personal _iewpoint, it must have been horrific to see that and it must have incurred all sorts of complex feelings within you. I recently had a friend that I thought was going to end up this way. Months of talking, being there etc did not seem to be helping... other friends felt the same way. It got to the stage I genuinely thought I had done my best... yet I felt I'd failed. To the degree I expected to hear she had taken her own life. Thankfully she did not and is now on the road to recovery. My point is... you're not responsible so please don't feel you are, if that IS even how you're feeling... but get some kind of counselling, you need to talk about this to someone who unders_ands and can offer constructive help. If you didn't you wouldn't have posted here.

Hope you're ok and sort this. Flo xxxxx

Sorry you had to witness this OP.

I would go and see your GP as soon as possible, Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is not something you can deal with on your own.

Depending on your symptoms, your doctor will direct you in the right direction.

Good luck and big hugs OP.

what max said, I normally turn up to the aftermath of an accident and I've seen some horrendous things over the years, not trying to sound macho but I'm lucky that these things don't bother me and I'm able to do my job, we have councillors on hand if need be and some guys have used the service which helped them a lot. See your gp asap as the quicker you deal with it the easier it'll be to recover.

I suspect I know what you saw and it really is something you MUST seek help with.

As people have said, your GP is a good starting point.

Please seek help. Don't suffer in silence

Gp and counselling as soon as possible the longer you leave it the more complex it gets as well as forming your own coping strategys that can be counter productive

Definitely go see your gp and have referral made fie counselling or to local psycholgy.

As someone who has worked with varying degrees of Ptsd the best advice I can give is to seek help.

There is no embarrassment in the way you are feeling and kudos for posting about it.

Really truly hope you seek help and the things et better for you.

And kudos to all who have offered advice. This is the good side of forums at its best!

What a horrible thing to have witnessed. I went through a similar kind of situation and spoke to my GP, and had some counciling which then lead me to more specific counciling called CBT. Cognitive behaviour therapy. I found that worked for me and is something to mibi look into.

You've taken the first step and recognised you need to do something about it.

Well done and hugs to you x

What a dreadful experience for you. When I was in my late teens a guy jumped from a building to his death and landed on the pavement just yards in front of me. In those days there wasn't the ready access to counseling as there is now. It took me a long time to regain my confidence outside and later in my life I had a relapse when I had my babies. I was obsessed with the thought of something falling on their pram. Get all the help you can...I send hugs.xcx

Thanks everyone. I've taken a deep breath and registered with a Dr (I've just moved...) I hope to get an appointment soon. You've been really helpful. My mind is all over the place right now: sometimes you need people telling you to do the right thing.

Don't know how it is like in your area. But make sure you chase them for an appointment asap, bug them till you get seen.

And if even you feel tomorrow or the day after that you are having a better day, still go and seek help. You need professional support.

Good luck. x

Well done on putting your hands up to say you're struggling with what you seen most would disappear into themselves and let it eat away at them.

speak to your GP to try get a referral to see someone however it may take a while so why not even try speaking to your employer they may have a service they use via their Occ health dept.

Stay strong amigo

Counselling or talking therapy, I saw someone throw themself from the top floor of a shopping centre a few years ago, gave me pretty horrific nightmares, still have a phobia of places that are high up and have glass sided partitions
