Boxer tyson fury has "allegedly" tested positive for cocaine.

He is likely to be stripped of his titles but is unlikely to be banned.

Now surely as cocaine is a banned substance, should he not also be banned in the same way anyone using say, steroids, would be?

Or am I perhaps missing something?

I heard on the radio that steroids carry a longer ban than a lot of things?! So in the boxing world that's worse than cocaine.

Saying his sample contains the main ingredient in cocaine, cue the raft of possible excuses from "I was spiked" but I reckon they will say more about his mental health and go into treatment which could lead to a reduction in ban etc

Drug punishments in sports are a bit mental.

Look at Nick Diaz and his ban for smoking compared to some others for performing enhancing drugs, especially in a sport where the aim is to go in and fuck someone up essentially its pretty crazy.

You would think the removal of titles and a ban of some sort would go hand in hand looking at it logically wouldn't you? Especially as it's more than a banned substance, it's an illegal drug.

well see that's my argument, that's why I'm a bit confused as to why he isn't getting banned

There'll some form of fuzzy logic in there somewhere.

Bringing the sport into dis repute but isnt a performance enhancing drug is why I would agree with this decision gives him a means of recompense the sport

Exactly, if anything cocaine would harm his performance. Ban is more because it's against the law and brings bad press.

A Galaxy Far, Far Away & Spain

Cue a plausible/implausible (delete as appropriate) excuse; a raft of chat show appearances, a book deal & some slots on celebrity reality shows such as "Dancing With The Stars".

As someone else mentioned, the money train won't stop.

i personally dont care who takes cocaine or not.dont see what it has to do with belts as its not a performance enhancing drug like steroids.
