Being the age I am, I love my music. my favourite bands are from many years ago, i.e, Pink floyde, Yes, and so many more, but tonight after a few good drinks today, I have came home, and put some music on, And have got myself lost into David Gilmore, live in Gdanks, I challenge any one to come up with a better guitarist than David Gilmore.

As much as I think David Gilmour is a very talented guitarist, definitely one of the best, there's far better out there. Page, Clapton, Peter Green, John Fogerty, BB King, Robert Johnson.

Just my opinion of course.

Hey, I realise I have opened a can of worms here, and that every one has there own favourites, so I think I should shut up now, and agree to disagree with you all, there are some brilliant guitarists out there, but in the end, PINK FLOYD rule, and DAVID GILMORE is the best. and as its my post, I have the last word. Hello, Hello, can anyone hear me, ?

is there anyone there, ?.

You are only coming through in waves,

Your lips move, but I cant hear a word your saying.

I I I I , Have become comfortably numb.

Repeat.

There is no pain, you are receiving.

The distant ships out on the horizon,

you are only coming through in waves.

Your lips move but I cant hear what your saying.

But I have become, comfortably numb.

And numb, and numb, and numb,

oh god, I think its time for bed.

Has to be without doubt:

Doyle Bramhall ll

this guy is simply amazing, he is wearing the open colour black top in this clip

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HH2nTo_c8qw

and don't forget the great "snowy white" & "Andy Fairweather Low" who play small Scottish venues often, such as backstage at the green (Kinross) when they are not touring with the greats such as Roger waters, Clapton, Elton John etc

Saw David Gilmour a few times and yes he is good, but he is also getting old, last time I saw him was at the O2 when he was invited to appear with Roger waters (The Wall)

Sorry mate as good as he is I can think of a few better guitarist than Dave Gilmour. Slash, James hetfeild, Eric Clapton to name a few.

Although his guitar work may sound awesome it's not exactly complicated or hard to play. I've got a few friends that started out playing guitar by learning Floyd riffs before progressing onto other things.

Floyd is sublime but is more the about the sound and song construction like Hendrix who still has one of the best performances playing little wing live.

Then there's the ones who technically are amazing like Joe Satraini and Andres Segovia.

This is the problem with the greatest guitarist debate. Is it the best technical player or who can stum a few chords together and make it sound awesome.

I've saw polls that put guys like kurt Cobain and Billy Joe Armstrong on top but to me as amazing as the songs sounded theh wernt guitar greats. Billy Joe Armstrong couldn't and I'm not sure if he still can't play many chords and was the first to admit his skills were basic.

Not only is he a great guitarist, he also knows how to rock and win over an audience, Fleetwood Mac today are still showing young bands how it is done and how to get whole stadiums on their feet

OK I'm a drummer and have played with some amazing axe men over the years.

Same with drummers, too many look at rock or metal and forget other genres like Prog or jazz.

As for guitarists

Used to always say the bet I've see it heard was Gary Moore, man played rock, jazz, fusion, blues. However last time I saw him he had become boring and was churning out the same shit.

Virtuoso guitarists like Steve Vai, Joe Satriana are highly rated

Slash, Hammett/Hetfield, Hendrix,Clapton were all over rated.

Jeff Beck, Eddie Van Halen, Brian May are under rated

As much as I like Floyd and David Gilmour sometimes he just doesn't quite do it, other times I hear him play Prince's Purple Rain or see Comfortably Numb live and wet myself

Guys like Zack Wylde, Randy Rhodes, Tony Iommi, Billy Gibbons and Angus Young are worthwhile names

What. about other genres like Ry Cooder, Django Rheinhard etc

So many greats and I haven't covered Page, Blackmore etc

So many but the very best is a matter of personal choice.

How can you say Slash and Hetfeild are overrated

If anything I'd say Slash has the recognition he deserves but Hetfeild gets overlooked as he's only rythme. Hammett I agree, he's good at what he does, he's fast and has a good technique but he's not up there with others you mentioned.

"

??thought you said you were a highly educated former company director"

did you then go onto playing drums?
