Porn stars & prostitutes

Just a question cos it popped into my head & I was wondering, if someone is a porn star, does that make them also a prostitute? Seeing as prostitution is the provision of sexual services in exchange for money & porn stars have sex for money. So are they a type of prostitute?

This is a genuine query, no malice intended. I just wondered.

All these porn production companies could be considered illegal as "pimping" is illegal

I would say no as they are having sex with other people who are paid to do so.

The other actors and actresses don't pay one to have sex with them.

Does that make any sense?

Yeah I see where you're coming from. So it depends on who's paying them? If one person pays another for sex that's prostitution, but if both parties are paid to have sex then it's not? What about the amateur stuff like casting couch etc where the cameraman is also the guy who has sex & pays the person?

Correct me if im wrong but in the uk porn industry penetration isnt shown so only simulated sex there are also additions added to uk porn that aint allowed specific acts that are now effectively prohibited as a result of the change are:

In a lot of current acidemic work on this, there is no differentiation in the stats or data collecting

This is mainly a terming issue. The term 'prostitue' is not used , it's replaced by 'sex worker'. So sex worker could be a pornstar or a prostitute or someone who works on a phone line.

So there is not really a difference semantically, or imo in reality
