Question. Should you charge a fee or should everyone be free?

Want to host a party but want it classy.

Hosted a few parties, usually ask for a small contribution for the apartment plus it seems to deter a lot of time wasters as well x

If it's in your own home then no, I don't think it's acceptable to charge, if you were having a party got friends and family would you charge them? If your hiring an apartment then yes, charging to recover the costs would be acceptable b

We've hosted quite a few parties and never charged... If we choose to have a party and invite people along then why would we then charge them? If a group of friends decide to hire an apartment and split the cost then that's a bit different.

My view is that if its in your own home then charging isn't appropriate. To make it classy the best way would be to vet your attendees really well, maybe even meet socially if you have time and then have a ball.

If you're having to pay for a room or cabin then I agree that you shouldn't be out of pocket.

No idea, I'm lost. Damn Sat nav!

Id say if its in your own home then no.

If your booking somewhere to host and wish guests to contribute towards the cost then yes .

Again if it's your home no...

It's your party what would folk be paying for?

If you want to keep it classy ..only invite those you know and want to be there ...

If it's an apartment then again only invite those you want and pm saying that your thinking of hiring an apartment anyone wanna chip in see who's interested...if it's a hall...and it's an actual social meet the hall is usually free if you can garentee a certain amount of folk ...but if it's gonna be an actual social and your opening up to the fab forum...I'd say charge £5 and you only get it back when you turn up on the night ...most folk don't touch buffets at these events...I know I don't as you don't know where fingers have been

If you say classy...your own home is best or an apartment

Good luck

Thanks, as I thought. My home is ideal but isn't exactly private.

It's down to the individual. Some people host parties rather than go to clubs and ask for a cost per head to cover food and soft drinks etc .. then take it in turns. That way they have who they want there as opposed to going to clubs and paying £30 or £ 40 to be around people they'd rather not be etc . But if it's a one off party at home I'd say no. Organised socials yes as there's gonna be costs to lay out for in most cases .

You could always just suggest they bring a bottle or whatever they would like to drink and maybe nibbles as we tend to do if we attend a party in someone's house

I'd say house parties are the way forward now as that way you the host can decide who to invite as to any random paying or just turning up

Hope it all goes well

What everyone else has said, we've hosted a few parties and because we have to hire accommodation we split the cost between everyone and we provide soft drinks, nibbles, condoms, lube etc.

Hope it goes well and you have a fantastic night
