Curious to hear people's opinions on what they think about vaping/using vapourisers. Do you think it is the same or as bad as smoking? What do you think?

Just as annoying getting vapour blown in your face. But good on who ever is trying to give up smoking. just don't blow it in my face

I don't smoke but I do know smokers who started using the vapor to ween them off smoking,but after 4 yrs still on the vapor I think you kind of just get used to pretending you have a smoke in your hand and it's sort of force of habit im thinking

All fair comments so far! I'm finding it very helpful so far to stop smoking and cutting down the strength of the liquids is definitely making it a lot easier! Also with the variety of flavours available it made me realise just how bad cigarettes taste haha

I'm always curious as to why people need to smoke anyway?

Is it the nicotine?

Is it the excuse to not do some work for 5minutes every hour?

Is the need to have something long and hard in your fingers to tease in and out of your mouth?

Kudos to the Vape industry. Raping people of their money

Not enough testing done to be fair , only recently company's admitted cigarettes did you harm so needs to be a 10-15 year study to see if there are any ill effects.

For me it was the age old thing of being young and stupid and doing it to look cool in front of your friends not knowing the real damage it was doing

And I wouldn't say the vape industry is raping people of money any more than the tobacco industry is! Probably less so seeing that I'm already noticing the money I've been saving

Been vaping for over a year and a half. Would never go back to the ciggies. I can taste food ten times better than I could before, my sense of smell has returned and I can actually climb a flight of stairs without killing myself.

Best thing I have ever done.

Plus compared to ciggie prices I've saved over £3k in the time that I've been off the cigs (and that takes into account how much I spend on liquids etc). I've used an app to keep count of everything and that's also helped me quit the cigs.

Recent NHS England stats are saying its 95% safer than smoking so that's a plus in my book.

It's nigh on impossible to do a long term study as 99% of vapers will have been smokers at some stage so any results will be skewed.

The first part of your post is wrong though, there are plenty of studies in the short term and all have come back positive, including one commissioned by the government

They ran a study and found them to be "95% less harmful than tobacco"

Vaping doesn't bother me as long as it's not in my face.

However, I think anyone who gives up the ciggies is admirable. If they use gum or patches or a vaper, who cares? As long as it works for them and they feel healthier for it then great.

Don't trust vaping. Bit like legal highs were - legal because they hadn't been banned yet.

Propylene glycol = antifreeze like what's in your car as coolant.

Not that smokings good for you either.

Good luck to those giving up smoking but vaping is a bit like smoking a Body Shop Dewberry gift set circa 1995. At least the ecigs/vaporisers don't look like the tampon things previously prescribed.

It's actually ethylene glycol which is found in antifreeze, it's apparently a similar chemical in its makeup but not anywhere near as toxic, thankfully! (did I just make a chemical sound like it wears makeup?) lol

Thanks for that it was an interesting read! I liked the point about salt also technically being a form of antifreeze and how it is a ln example of a safe chemical being used for that purpose

I wouldn't in any way try to belittle anyone's opinion on the matter, the fact is that it's still relatively new and, as a pervious poster has said, the longer term effects can't be properly studied yet. Also the Internet is full of pro and anti vaping information but this is what I wanted to see when I made this thread, nowt wrong with a bit of healthy debate!

You need choose any source of information wisely i.e. respected scientists without an agenda.

I read a study a while back that showed vaping causes formaldehyde to be produced and was just as harmful as smoking. Problem was they were holding down the button for 2-3 minutes thus burning the coil out and producing harmful chemicals. Not even a simpleton would hold the button down for a fraction of that time. It was the equivalent of throwing some meat in an oven, on the highest temperature, leaving it in there for 3 days burning and coming to the conclusion that the oven burned the meat and as such was dangerous.

There will always be scare stories; a quick google of dihydrogen monoxide(DHMO)will show just how something harmless can be made to look incredibly dangerous.

Couldn't agree more, I've been trawling through the pro and anti vaping information to see what both sides of the subject have to say and there definitely does seem to be a certain degree of scaremongering from the anti side which is dealt with and explained in a seemingly reasonable and scientific fact-based fashion
