Yorkhill Easter Egg Run Sun 24th April 2011

Bikers are required to pre-register to take part in the event this year, paying a £5.00 donation, which will go straight to Yorkhill Children's Foundation.

A strict limit of 3,000 vehicles has been imposed. You MUST register to take part in the official run.

there is alot of controversy about this years egg run. such as why do you need to register with your name and reg number.( what's this for)

why £5 fee when the web site says £3.( why more to reg than donate)

and who's going to stop you from riding on the public road .

yes in the past there were alot of bike at the hospital and all they did was give the first lot wrist bands to let them in now it seems to be getting a bit too commercialised and you have to pay for the privilege. in the past it was organised by different bike clubs each year but now there is just one group. have a look at the face book pages and you will see the controversy kicking up about this years run, i will support the run but i wont support the registration so if you see me at the end of the road with the 6000 other bikers ( the largest crowd for this was 9000 bikes) give us a wave

There's no confusion. Anyone, biker, pillion, supporter of bikers or supporter of Yorkhill can donate £3 at any time AS OFTEN AS THEY LIKE by texting the two words yorkhill egg to 70003. It's the same sort of system which Fab uses.

The £5 registration fee goes straight to Yorkhill. No admin charges, no cups of tea for the stewards, no payments to Strathclyde's Finest or any of the other nonsense stories that are circulating. 3,000 bikes at £5.00? You do the math.

You can register via the Yorkhill Childrens Foundation website. It's a dot org

I appreciate it goes against the free spirit nature of bikers but it's the only way the cops will advise the Council to permit the run to go ahead.

If 6,000 'unregistered' riders trap on the day it'll probably be the last Yorkhill Easter Egg Run - and that can only hurt the weans in Yorkhill.

i did not say there was confusion i said there was controversy about the registration. have a look at the facebook pages and you will see it for yourself.

as for the number of bikers there has been up to 9000 bikes in the past ( it was the largest bike run in the UK at one point) and there was no hassles. the police joined in the run and let the stewards run the show ,and they were great days out for both the bikes and the kids.

oh and the maths does not add up

3000 x £3 donation = £9000

3000x £5 registration = £15000

that's £6000 going where ?? yorkhill maybe ?? but why is there a difference ??

other charity runs have tried the registration route and fallen flat on their faces as the turn out was so poor. if you look at the route that was used last year it was along a back street -why !! the council changed their minds at the last minute.

yes the egg run is a good thing and is great for the kids but some fat arsed git at the council who most probably has never been on a bike is mucking with some thing that has worked for years.

other than that this is not the forum to quibble about the egg run . if folk want to go or not is up to them and if they want to read more about it well they can look at face book and decide themselfs

I don't see where you think there's a difference. the £3 is a wholly optional payment which anyone, biker or not, can make by SMS as a contribution to Yorkhill whether or not they support the Egg Run. It's exactly the same as the £5 text people can choose to make to Fab to be a Site Supporter. It's not compulsory.

My understanding is that Glasgow City Council have insisted on registration because the Egg Run falls under the Marches and Processions (I think that's the name) by law which was introduced to control the proliferation of marches, Orange, Hibernian, CND, Protest and so on. Crazy? Quite possibly but it's how things are.

Last year's route was crap. This year starts on the Kelvinway, along to Charing X, up to Gt Western Rd, Anniesland Cross, Crow Rd, Dumbarton Rd and up to Yorkhill. This route is being permitted because of the acceptance of registration.

Blackbird the £3 is NOT COMPULSORY - this is a text service which allows you to donate more if you wish or for people who do not have bikes.

The £5 registration must be paid to ride in the group.

but as this is the cost of ONE easter egg I dont see what the big deal is.

now both of you wheesht before you're sent to the naughty corner!
