"There's the wossobama and blast fitness in ayr. Both have websites. If serious about it maybe look at doing separate jujitsu and boxing classes. As you'll focus solely on them and your technique will get better as a result. There's a place up in Cumnock that has its own octagon but can't mind it's name. Bit for from you as well. " Yes I've heard of that Wossobama place. That sounds like the best one from what I can see so far. Ayr is a bit further than I'd like but still within reach. Thanks for the advice about jujitsu/boxing. I wasn't sure which form to start with but they both sound appealing. Think I'll get in touch with those places and see what they say : ) I think Cumnock would be too far out my way but Ayr should be about ok I think..

"If your on a budget, id stick to mma training opposed to Boxing and BJJ separately. Most MMA gyms will be able to teach you the basics really well. Once your circumstances change you could move to a more advanced gym or a gym that specialises in grappling or striking. if your new to mma, you should avoid coaches that will try persuade you to drop one aspect of martial arts to focus on what they are selling. It's still just a business to far too many these days. Good luck with it. It only has benefits. " A lot of good advice jumping about but this above struck a chord with me. I've trained in Glasgow since 1967 when martial arts were an unknown quantity in the UK and a gym was where you learned Boxing. Nowadays martial arts schools are ten a penny and many are fly by night wannabe instructors out to make a fast buck. Don't know the Ayrshire scene very well so take the above advice and choose wisely Best of luck on what should be a long and enjoyable voyage Rok

"I've looked online to see what there is in the way of training for mma in Ayrshire. There seems to be quite a few options but I'm wondering if there is anyone in Ayrshire on here that has any suggestions for a complete beginner? I live in Stevenston and currently don't work so I'm looking for advice on the best place to go on a budget for a beginner please... Never done it before but really want to do it and not sure where to begin.. Thanks " Yes mate, for a start pick your club carefully. Every man and his dog is claiming to be a "cage fighter" these days. Mostly whilst wearing tons of tapout gear having been to one class. Try "The Griphouse" or "Dinky Ninjas". Both been on the go for plenty time and have good reps. Another tip, when your in the ground for the first time grappling don't try and use your strength!
