Who would you say has had the biggest influence on your life and why?

Obviously parents will be high on the list, but have you ever been influenced by a total stranger, or other?

Interested to hear people's experiences.

Genuinely influenced by myself primarily, and my ambitions and personal goals... sometimes I feel motivated when looking at the success of others, typically certain celebrities who give motivational talks and the like... I'm not influenced by anyone else within my sort of immediate life. Ah well, that's my input!

Admire self motivation and self awareness. Says a lot about a person.

May sound a bit cheesy but my daughter has been the biggest influence in my life, I want to be the best possible role model for her and show too her what a real man and father is supposed to be like

Just reading your comment better now, I have been influenced by a total stranger in a way, I came across a fitness transformation video on the Internet a couple of years ago and the guys were talking about fitness and what not... Up until 2013 I was 9.5 stone with a 27 inch waist...

That year alone I started working out intensely, and ate properly and gained 25-30 lbs of lean mass over the next 12 months!

It was those "total strangers" in a way that kind of just made me tell myself to get my own arse in gear as otherwise my goal of bulking up a bit would have just continued to have been a passing pipe-dream ambition that never got fulfilled. I was self conscious about my skinnyness for years until then.

I quite badly injured my tricep whilst lifting last year and had to take 9 months out there and I've now lost abit of mass as well since being injured but hope to get back to it starting this month again! Once in a routine it's addictive and continually rewarding.

I've had a few people who have genuinely influenced my life

1. My mum because she is always there for me

2. My dad taught me to be whoever I wanted to be and the only person stopping me from achieving my dreams was me

3. My ex really taught me humility and courage in the face of adversity

Sounds like you have been influenced prior to that, by a bad experience, but has had a positive impact on you.

Your daughter has strengthened your already motivation to be all you can be.

That's a great story, funny how we can be touched in different ways. It intrigues me.

Keep it up, I'm sure you will.

Other than family, I have one person who is a great influnece for me and she helps me to continue to be aware of myself, what I need to do to get what I want in life and how to just be myself.

Definitely one of those rare amazing people in a crazy world.

Yes I agree most people will be influenced by parents, your very lucky in a way as it's strange how some parents don't see that key role when raising children.

Good in your ex too. Humility and courage are great traits.

I wouldn't say anyone in particular has inspired me to do anything but many have inspired me by how they have lived their lives e.g. my parents working their asses off for pitiful wages and still managing to raise 4 kids or those who constantly give their time to help others.

Many folks have inspired me in different ways.

Agreed it sounded a bit of a contradiction. I didn't word it very well

To rephrase I guess that the way many people have coped/lived their lives have all inspired me to be a good person and thoughtful towards others.

No one, I try to be my own person and make my own decisions.

Everything I do and say is my own choice, I've done it since I was a wee boy & will continue to do so.

I try and be the exact opposite from my birth parents and foster parents, my birth parents were & are alcoholics among many other things, my foster parents are good people but two faced, act a certain way in front of people outside our home but totally different inside.

3 older brothers, 1 in the army and very high up but thinks he's better than everyone becuase of it, 1owns his own business but never hear from him, and the other is an alcoholic who cheats on every woman he's ever been with even had sex with his wife's sister at the wedding.

I've never had a role model or someone to inspire me becuase there's no one in my life to look up to.

Awww that's a shame, but I bet your a stronger person for it.

In a way you have been influenced, just not directly as you have never had that role model or mentor, but all those people you mentioned have influenced you in some way or another, as you will inspire to be like or not.

Love people who make their own decisions though. Shows character.

My biggest influence would be my close friends. They have helped influence my moods, my happiness and my interests all of my life.

I make my own decisions too of course, but it's helpful to have friends who will support you with your choices too.

There's one or two bad influences on here, mind!

I really have no idea...

I know people made an impact on my life but most of them were extremely negative impacts that I had to spend ages fixing and mending or recovering from.

I guess they did me a favor as I've always got a backup plan now incase something goes pair shaped.

I would say dear old mama has been my one fluent influence.

Others along the way have taught me about strengths and goals I have

Exes have influenced how I thonk about men.

Bit of a mixed bucket...

Saw someone has said about their kid? Mine inspires me in that way to do better and to be better. To work hard and reap the rewards. She's an inspiration.
