Is might just be me but I don't get the hype of this.

I personally think it's one of the silliest most boring things on tv.

Grown men are drooling over this.

Really what's the fascination

No idea, personally I think they're all very boring movies.

I'm more of a superhero movie kinda guy, batman vs superman & suicide squad, only 2 films I'm looking forward to.

I don't get it either.. I've never watched a Star Wars movie ... and from bits and pieces of them I've seen I've no interest in watching them..

I really don't get the hype at all... Grown adults competing to have the best costumes from the film to wear when they go and see it Baffled

I remember when the first one came out and I thought it was great - watched it again recently and realized it was crap!

Such a dissapointment as I remember the special effects being really impressive - now they just look a bit rubbish.

It's absolutely fine to not like something, but there are many of us who do.

We all love and enjoy different things, if you don't want to watch it then don't. It's not compulsory.

It's called cosplay and it's a hobby, like knitting or tinkering with cars.

Because they like it, just as many do the same about football

But football is a sport which is "real life" star wars was written by someone and the people in it are actors so not real.

I just really get it I don't

So, like every other non documentary film then?

I have no issue with people not liking something I love. I don't like football, or Twilight, or Fifty Shades. But I don't put down others that do, I just ignore it and carry on my merry way.

Although it concerns me that some people think Fifty Shades is a love story when really it's an abusive relationship, but that's another story.

What I will say is that many of those people that dress up in costumes do so to entertain, and raise a lot of money for charity in the process. There's no harm in that.

And for the record I don't like soaps or Mr grey either

I don't get those men and women who throw on their football tops and sit in the pub or at the football ground, or even in their living rooms, but it's the same thing.

Each to their own, and may they be very happy doing it. I will be at the midnight screening (my saber will be staying home) and having a great time with my friends

I was a kid when I saw the first 3, had (and still have..) a very big imagination, this saga opened up my curiosity of the universe and other worlds etc.

I would say I learned more from star wars than I did from Christianity lol.

It is the same way people lose their minds over a pair of shoes or a hand bag or whatever. A lot of people don't get that but a lot of people can relate to such things.

It is perfectly okay (dare I say normal?) for people to get excited about stuff they like and it is perfectly acceptable for people not to like it as well. It is part of the human condition and what makes a person who they are. I'm sure we all drool over stuff other people don't get. Live and let live.

Surely you cant compare football to star ware seriously

It's a sport they play to achieve an end goal wining a league or a cup

Star wars is a fictional movie

Each to their own I guess

lol why do we "dress up" to go out of an evening because we gain pleasure from it. even my partner finds it strange that at times I prefer to stay home....cant stand shopping all things she loves. Cup of coffee fallout 4 followed by starwars battlefront is far more enjoyable than sitting in a pub hearing about mabels cat licking its a**

Sport and film are very different things, I completely agree. What I am talking about is people having an interest in something, regardless of what that something is. We all like different things, and there's nothing wrong with that. I don't expect anyone to understand why I like some stuff, just as I'm sure they don't expect me to like everything they enjoy.

You clearly don't like Star Wars in particular, and that's ok. But your tone suggests you're sneering at people who do and that's not ok. Whether that's what you actually think or you're just enjoying trying to start an argument, I really don't know and am not the least bit interested, so I'm off to do something I enjoy

I did'nt think I was bothered about it..... Then I seen the trailer......sounds weird ... Visuals were great, but it was the sound effects and that music.... It took me right back to when I was about 9, and seen the first one.......I'm now pretty excited about it and hope to see it as soon as possible !!!! If you are dressing up , brilliant ! Hope you have a great time !

Reading people talking about not understanding other folk's preferences on this site always gives me a wry smile. We follow a lifestyle that would have many people calling us deviants and talking about how hard to understand it is,and how impossible to comprehend the decision to dress like that in your home or at parties.

Kettle/pot.

Personally, I still recall the wonder and excitement of seeing the first movies when I was young. I remember being mesmerised by the action, the set, the story. Nothing I had seen before compared. I watched them again and again and again... Finding more details, more tiny facts. I read books surrounding it, because when someone's imagination can contour up something so vibrant, it can take on a life of it's own (see Tolkien, Harry Potter, Beverly hills 90210.... I'm joking about Beverly hills). The more I read, the more I felt immersed in the world created. I grew out of this, went on to job, motorbikes, bills etc... But that feeling... When I first seen those films...it remains. So when each new one comes out, I get to relive my youth and go back to a world I loved as a boy...and the beauty is... Fundamentally.. That world hasn't changed. It's always here. Constant.

In many ways the star wars universe can be an escape for some... Those 'geeks' who dress up see less hardship in the black and white of the force, than treading the grey areas of real life. It's escapism.

That's just my long winded thoughts

C
