I love taking photos but I've just never had a "proper" camera till now. Mr J" Right after I got mine the next purchase was a tripod and remote control for it....trust me, make the investment

"I just got an entry level one as I'm not that well off atm. Got a canon 1200D. Special offer with a 75-300mm lens added in. Though I might try sell that to get a 50mm instead. I have a canon ixus 115 which is really good, but I've wanted an SLR for years" Keep the 300 and save up for the 50... got for the 1.4 when you do. They're my two most used lenses.

"I SO want an gorilla pod... " Got one for my slr. It's pretty good. And just to echo someone else, don't flog the 300. Save up for the 50. I've got an 18 to 55, and a long lens and they're more than enough for me. London camera exchange sometimes have good deal on used lenses and the service is great.

"hunt for cheap lenses, even manual ones. canons 'nifty fifty' 1.8 is a fave of most, and can be bought very cheap.ebay is good in most cases. I lost a 50mm nikon e-series 1.8...a lens well over 20years that outshines the latest...I got mine for 20 quid at the time. there are adapters you can buy too..for using different camera system lenses (though auto features will be disabled) this might be the best advice though, research using off camera flash(wireless triggers help, but some flash units can act as slave units),. macro work, a dedicated lens is great, but there are a few adapters, tricks u can research. youtube is great for learning too " Paddy its like your talking a different language!
