And ladies should wear the poppy on the right hand side with the leaf pointing to 11 o'clock

The Scottish one has 4 petals, the English one has 2.

And many of those wearing one with a leaf, has it wrongly positioned. It's supposed to be in the 11 o'clock position as you look at it.

I liked what the Royal British Legion had to say about all the protocols surrounding wearing a poppy...

"The poppy should be worn with pride"

Whilst i hear some of the current arguments against the poppy, I feel most are missing the entire point of "Lest we forget" - we have been in avoidable wars because we have forgotten past lessons, that's what needs to change. I'm still proud to remember those who have fallen in duty, regardless of whether the reasons behind the wars pursued by the politicians were just, those that have their lives did so with the intention of keeping me safe: that I am proud to remember.

I couldn't care less how a war started. A is about remembering the fallen.

The lost and the wounded

Their families and comrades

I wear my poppy for a lot of reasons but as a bereaved parent myself I can't help thinking of the young boys who went to war (any war) and never returned to their mothers and families. Young lives lost and they went so bravely and with such pride.

I hope I never lose the ability to empathise. Bless them...every one.

As most of you know, I'm a Hearts supporter so the Colonel Sir George McCrae and what he done means a lot to me.

Unfortunately, health issue meant I could not go to Haymarket today but got on the scoot and presented a poppy at a war memorial close to where I live.

No one there... Pissing rain, howling wind. presented my single poppy and an old man about 90 tapped me on the shoulder and said thank you. Could barely see for tears to get home!!

Fmuma, what a touching story in what has become a hate filled society in regards to our Fallen and being British etc.

You might not have been well but to go out your way and show your respects you have done not only yourself proud but also the memory of Colonel Sir George McCrae and everyone who gave the ultimate sacrifice.xx
