I don't believe there's a 'right' way of making a cup of tea, I rarely drink the stuff lol but I know a good few who can't survive a few hours without a good cuppa!

Curious to hear how you all make your tea. Teabag and milk first? Or hot water then teabag etc?

A girl I used to work with would put in the teabag, loads of milk, hot water and then the sugar. Which seemed really strange to me! Lol

According to yorkshire tea on telly other day pyramid bags are better boil kettle then let cool a short time add water to bag in cup or mug let stand till suits strength you prefer remove bag then add sugar milk or just lemon

1. Get a very large mug (400-500ml is ideal), put a teabag in mug (Tetley I prefer).

2. The very instant the kettle boils, pour water through the teabag. Leave room for plenty of milk.

3. Wait about 5 minutes until tea is nice 'n' dark, give the teabag a little squeeze, remove teabag and put the teabag in the used teabag receptacle (not the sink).

4. Add one heaped teaspoon of white granulated sugar and stir thoroughly.

5. Pour in lots of semi-skimmed milk to the brim and stir thoroughly.

6. Drink whilst piping hot. If tepid, heat it up.

7. A packet of biscuits for dunking is mandatory.

I haven't had tea from a teapot for over 20 years. My gran made tea in a teapot for breakfast and tea time. It always tastes a bit better out of a tea pot

I always go for loose leaf tea because it is simply better. Even the high quality tea bags are just the dust swept up from loose leaf. Loose leaf doesn't necessarily cost more either but if you really enjoy it is well worth it. My guide is something like...

- Always use a teapot. Without getting really into it, the infusion process works better in a pot than into a cup. Tea is an infusion, not a boiling.

- Use loose leaf tea

- Always use freshly drawn water the best flavour in teas occurs the more oxygen is present in water so reboiling water or using water that has sat in the kettle for hours make a really flat tea

- 'Boil' accordingly. Black teas use boiling water whereas green/white teas benefit from about 80 degree water

- Heat the teapot and cup beforehand as this also helps benefit the infusion process

- Measure tea accordingly, usually one teaspoon per person/cup

- When you pour the water into the teapot allow the tea time to infuse! The amount of people who pour water in then just remove the bag instantly are just making coloured water.

- Black teas typically infuse for about 4/7 minutes, any longer and they start becoming really bitter. So take the leaves out after that point. Bitter isn't a sign of a 'stronger' cup of tea, or coffee for that matter.

- You can reuse tea leaves several times, not so much black tea leaves but even still with some you can get 1/2 infusions out of them. With Green Teas you can get as many as 7 and usually the 3rd onwards are really where the tea starts to shine.

I'd never add milk/sugar/sweetener to it because it takes away from the quality of the tea itself. Unless it was Chai tea where it has traditionally always been a part of it. It ultimately is a person palate thing but the more you get into it the more you discover about tea.

Brew in the Mug drap in T bag tetley prefered cover with coo add freshly biled water stir 12 circuits clock wise 12 anti clockwise leave to brew for 5 mins and apparently its brill . I only ever have Coffee but make t for visitors to above method .

T converted me to her way of having tea. Now it has to be with the bag left in the mug after being well squeazed and only a small splash of milk. Dark brown and very strong.

Preferably Tetley or Tetley Extra Strong.

Daily quantity consumed: 4 to 8 mugs per working day.

I don't like tea. Or coffee. I'm a hot chocolate kind of girl. And not the instant stuff you make with boiled water.. I like steamed milk and whipped cream. Crumbled flake on top and if really indulging.. melt in a coconut lindor chocolate ...

Always add the water to the tea, get a better brew that way. If a mug, I put the bag in, water & then milk, chuck the bag out before making a new one.

If a pot, then the traditional warm the pot, one teaspoon per person and one for the pot.

Couple of tips.

boil the kettle and pour some boiled water into a "China" cup leave this in for 10 seconds or so to heat the cup. empty the cup.

let the kettle boil again just to make sure its bloody roasting. Now there is a nack to this bit. Put the bag in the cup and aim the spout of water at the bag as the water goes in the cup you need the bag to inflate. If you can achieve this the tea will be much better!!

add milk or whatever after leaving to brew for a minuite or 2
