Posted a few months ago re cycling and there was a bit of interest. Now wanting advice on winter gear to get. Any recommendations of what I would need over the winter months if I am cycling to work and socially.

Cheers

Gloves and a snood, especially if your cycling early in the morning, the cold air feels like glass on your hands and face!

I wear under armour cold climate top and depending on the weather/time I'm cycling, cold climate tights or just shorts!

Definitely get gloves though!

Neoprene overshoes are meant to be good and I plan on getting a pair. I have also just purchased a front light from Amazon which at 5000 lumens it lights up the whole street. It gets good reviews despite the low cost, time will tell.

Is that for cycling or growing ? Haha

I only do short cycles so I just stick with a normal pair of gloves and a hoodie in the winter

Check out Decathlon, for reasonable prices and quality gear. Don't get hung up on brand name's as some are no better than the less expensive kit. Aldi and Lidl do cracking deals on cycling stuff from time to time.

Ears, fingers and toes get cold really quickly on the bike so make sure they're covered.

silk stockings(mens tights) long sleeve top and of course liner gloves....

Although wool is still the best insulator

I disliked cycling around edinburgh, every car tried to adopt you as a bonnet trophy.

Now about this amazon bargain, tell me more please.

Search for cree bike light, and you'll find a selection. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Nestling%C2%AESolarstorm-Headlamp-Bicycle-Headlight-Flashlight/dp/B00T4BVM9O/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1444258924&sr=8-4&keywords=cree+bike+lights

Not sure if that link will be allowed, but on Amazon they are less than £20!! and brighter thana cars headlight!

In my opinion the most important thing is decent lights. Spend the money and go for USB rechargeables. Sounds like a joke on here but I use a 'Nightrider' 350 lumens on the front and at least two red LED strobes on the back. Gloves, sealskinz can't be beat. Keep your feet dry, it's a must. Again sealskinz socks win here but overshoes really are needed.

From Amazon I went for the Solarstorm 5000 Lumen Bicycle Light its quite impressive for its size and price. If it turns out a dud it did not cost too much so no great loss.

Get a decent pair of gloves, everyone has different ideas and budgets. Try a few pairs see which feels good, I just got a pair from aldi not tried them yet but for did by up and down the sea front they will do for me. The rest is personal choice again, try looking at thermal body warmers when winter sets in fully.

Anything in the Galvin Green range - pricey but top drawer in the keeping warm and dry category

Don't get sucked into buying all the cycling fan boy super expensive stuff. Yes, you get what you pay for, but equally you can get some nice cycle gear for reasonable money. A lot comes down to how much you want to spend really and what you need. Whether or not you plan to cycle in all weathers or just the cold. Even Sport Direct do a few bits of cycle wear.

Beautiful countryside around Ayrshire and Renfrewshire.
