anyone else have an issue with this? I don't give out my Kik name unless it's someone I'm enjoying talking to and planning to meet.

Tonight I had yet another random person message me. Is there somewhere people are finding Kik names, or some sort of local search facility that I don't know about?

Yes I get that a lot, almost enough to make me want to ditch it

Would guess there is or if you have a keyword type of name (something like boobs) maybe even a filter that shows names ie you enter boo and it shows names that start with this

I had a message saying a lady was in my address book, turned out she was from London and we'd never heard of each other

I'm sure you can remove yourself from the kik "directory" so people can't look you up.

I'm sure I heard that somewhere......

Perhaps the other people you're chatting to have given it away

Only started using it, but there is a feature that apparently blocks new people contacting you.

Might help?

Hmmmm. I was talking bollocks. That just stops the notifications.

Yeah, seems the only way to block is to open their message and do it from there.

I'm curious as to how he got my Kik address though, if there's no 'who's near' facility. I doubt it was given by anyone I've chatted to

Companies use Kik to spam people every bit as much as any other medium so it might have been that.

I've had a couple of obvious spam requests recently with a cute girl as the avatar photo but just delete.

Depending on how random your Kik address is, it's fairy easy guess randomly and get a "hit".

I don't respond to unsolicited kik messages. Delete and move on.
