Is it just me or is trying to meet someone on this site just awful I understand that there are more males than females but it seems that getting even a social is impossible.....

That's a good idea but being in military barracks doesn't help any ideas would be appreciated

why does being in the military cause a problem if anything it makes things easier

You're quite right OP, this place is a waste of time, never get a meet, not even a social. Maybe time to move on?
