Eww... Braveheart is an appalling movie! As historically accurate as Star Wars!

But to answer the question:

Local Hero

Restless Natives

Under the Skin (didn't enjoy it, but it looks great!)

Has any one seen The Acid House by Irvine Welsh? It's quite a bizarre, funny and disturbing file but plenty of banter and a classic Scottish film.

I second Angels Share - if you've not seen it you should. All about addressing low esteem in society and doing the right thing by them.

Love is a Four Letter Word is a good short film, the Outpost series (Though made here not about here) and Fast Romance was excellent.

Anything that doesn't go down the road of how miserable it is to be Scottish and how depressing it is to live here amongst the neds , jakies and criminals.

Not a movie but I can remember years ago watching a one off drama set in Greenock called Leaving (at least I think that was the title). I have tried to find it again but never managed to. Anyone else remember seeing it? It was really funny but also quite moving, typically Scottish then I suppose.

Angels share is a great wee film.

Enjoyed neds until the last 20 min's.

But has to be the 39 steps with Kenneth More.

I'm also pretty sure the castle scenes from monty python n the holy grail were filmed at Doune castle near Stirling.

Love this thread - so many great movies.

Carla's Song, New Town Killers - one of the best soundtracks ever - Isa and The Filthy Tongues.

Especially glad to see that Rat Catcher, Sweet Sixteen and That Sinking Feeling haven't been forgotten. As for Peter Mullen - We are very fortunate to have him.

But no mention of Brigadoon - maybe I just need to wait?

I first seen this when I was about 12, great shirt film with a sad but true portrayal!! I have tried to find it but no joy!! There was also a short film where Robert Carlyle played a character named "Nostie" think it was the same production company or series of short films!

Leaving is correct. Directed by Danny Boyle I think

I'd completely forgotten about 'Living Apart Together', I owned a shop on Gordon St. at the time and left the lights on during filming of night scenes - the car crash was outside my shop, 'Bump For Bump'.
