I will wait a few months to see what goes wrong for everyone else and then decide.

A house, a very big house in the country

I'd just like a notebook/laptop that works.

This one sucks.

I have 3 computers, 2 running 8.1 and one running 7, so all eligible for the 10 upgrade.

However, Microsoft has a poor record in launching new Windows versions, so I'll be waiting a good 10 months before doing anything.

And there's no need to have 2 computers to compare different versions. Either setup a dual-boot on your pc, or instal a virtual pc on it.

"Will it still be free though "
For a year, then you'll have to pay to upgrade.

I have far too many computers but my main desktop and my main laptop are being held back and I have a couple of laptops and 2 netbooks that I will update and see.

Once the kinks are ironed out then I may update however I will give it a lot of time as I remeber the mess that was Millennium and Vista.

he other machines all run linux and never give me any problems.

I've upgraded from 8.1 to 10 and it's fine, no problems other than an issue with Microsoft Outlook (if you use it). Once 10 is installed you are no longer able to send email via outlook if you use a pop/smtp email server, eg aol. It's a simple fix which corrects two corrupt files. Otherwise I find that the new web browser 'Edge' is a lot smoother than IE11. So far, so good but having said that, I could have equally survived very well using 8.1
