hijacked profiles!

Got a message from a friend wanting a meet.

I responded gladly accepting.

They knew nothing about it until they got my message.

Turns out someone has hijacked their profile and has been sending messages and posting updates posing as them!

A) WHY would anyone do that??

B) HOW can anyone do that??

If someone leaves their phone unattended and logged into fab they can also do it that Way.

I've been hacked three times now. They change my status and delete my messages. I've no idea what else though. My password is now so random even I don't know it!

Quite often nothing is to be gained other than the fact they can and it'll annoy the hell out of someone else.

As Alfred said in one of the Batman films, some people just want to watch the world burn!

A) for the same reason some people smash up bus shelters... because they can.

B) How. Lots of ways of doing it.

Some people are lazy with security and use the same username and password for lots of things. Get one and you have them all. It's called gearing, set up a 'joke of the day' website or similar and gather security details then use them on all the usual email sites.

Some people keep themselves logged in on computers, tablet and phones. Getting in is trivial in that case, just use the device.

Rarer but still not uncommon is 'man in the middle' data gathering where you connect to "Free public Wifi" that turns out to be a computer reading all the data that passes through the wifi point. Setting up a man in the middle is fairly simple if you are geeky enough and can be run on a tablet or phone. everybody loves free wifi and never thinks twice about the security.

Human beings being lazy or not knowing the dangers are still the source of most hacking.

As has been said above 999999999999999 out of 1000000000000000 the account isnt hacked or hi jackcked the person whos profile it is gave the password or left un attended so really no one to blame but themselves (have had it done entirely my fault ) as humans we dont accept blame very well

But to be fair most are not true friends ...once you leave for a time or if your not active you find most disappear...too many get carried away and get used etc privacy levels drop.

Would you trust the same thing to a stranger in the street? That's essentially what everyone is on here, a complete stranger you really know nothing about.

I agree that being able to trust everyone wold be awesome but life is life unfortunately.
