Album that awakened you musically

Early teens I was into the New Romantic stuff, Heaven 17, Human League, Yazoo etc; but come maybe 15 I swapped a bmx for a bunch of rock albums with a guy from the local village (sadly died of a brain haemorrhage not long after poor bugger).

Anyhoo, in that pile of albums was Iron Maiden's Live After Death.

This record blew my mind when I heard it and still does today (was listening to it on the bike going to Glasgow the other day).

That then opened a whole can of metal worms for me through my late teens and into my 20s.

So what the album that you recall from your youth that made you aurally scream 'f**k me!'

B

Used to alway think he was singing 'bastard, bastard, master of puppets is pulling your strings' lol was their last decent album in my view. Bought ride the lightning last week after hearing it in a pub in Malta week before

"The holy bible" by the Manics

Lyrically bleak but beautiful,it's the sound of a band knowing their worth and of a lyrical genius knowing the end is nigh.

To this day there is still nothing that can touch it.

The Stone Roses eponymous first album.

It changed my life and I still get a tingle every time I listen to it. It still sounds fresh and great.

salt sweat sugar on the outside. My absolute favourite.

My answer to this post was probably listing to Smoke on the water a mixtape my dad had with lots of greats hendrix/sabbath/thin lizzie/ zz top etc absolutely drove my music love into overdrive from there.

Had just started high school and it was the hottest summer ever.

Was listening to the radio and heard Why Can't a This Be Love by Van Halen, the guitar intro bit sent shivers down my spine & set me on a very slippery slope to Rock/Metal heaven.

Struggling to pin it on just one album.....the soundtrack to my childhood featured amongst so many the likes of The Rolling Stones,The Beatles,Pink Floyd,David Bowie,Frank Zappa,Led Zeppelin,The Doors....etc,etc.

Had a wee rebellion as a teenager n listened to a lot of industrial Lenny Dee type tunes.......got sick of that soon enough when I realised I couldn't dance to that stuff in a club for any longer than 5min without giving myself a heart attack!

Still love my dance music, just a bit more mellowed out these days.

I'll just pick one of many out the hat before this turns into a novel..................

The Beatles-Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band........as I can still clearly remember knowing all the words to every song off it when I was 11-12ish

The Doors compilation "13" was what triggered my initial interest in music. However, it was the emergence of punk that really started the ball rolling as far as buying much of it.

First album that turned me on was the second Queen album. Turned me into a Queen anorak

However it also turned me onto Prog music.

Recently had a breakdown and have been on anti depressants and the album "Is There Anybody Out There " or The Wall live from Floyd helped get my MOJO back

My musical tastes are too eclectic to pick one album.

I did get a lot of kudos for having licensed to ill on import about 6 months before the beastie boys were turned into media sensations.

Issues by Korn and Americana by The Offspring were the two that got me away from boybands and into rock music.

Then it was Burn Piano Island, Burn by The Blood Brothers purely because I'd never heard any music that sounded anything like it before. Wasn't sure if I liked it at first but it's my number one now for sure

And Cross by Justice for showing me that dance music can actually be awesome.

Journey to the Centre of the Earth - Rick Wakeman. I know, showing my age. But he's still going strong. Saw him at Motherwell Town Hall the other night. So talented, and a great laugh.
