Get two nicotine patches and put one over each eye you cant find your cigs then...lol.On a serious note you really want to give them up smoking aids are very good but ive found it down to willpower.Best of luck giving the horrible things up.

Only thing that worked for me was going cold turkey. It was brutal at the start but in the end i got there and have been a non smoker for 4 years.

Try the patches and keep your mind occupied as much as possible, they reckon it takes 3-7 days for the nicotine to flush from your body. Its like dieting in that its the easy getting the weight but harder to keep it off.

Cold turkey, and tell yourself at every urge to have a cig,,,"it gets easier after 2weeks" once you reach that 14th day, you will recognise the urges fading.

Steve i used a wonderful woman who hypnotised me into not fancying a smoke, i left her office and have never smoked again, 40 a day to not 1.

You have my number if you want her contact address and telephone number.

Good luck, it is so worth it.

The patches worked for me, but it takes willpower as well. You realy have to want to stop, believe me it is one of the best things you will ever do. So best wishes. YOU CAN DO IT. Andy.

Thanks...

Ive read up on it, as I did with Zyban... But I would like feedback from those who have used it, rather than those selling it / prescribing it...

dunblane, stirling

If possible, try to do it when you have a change of routine- school holidays, new hobby or when going away for a break.

smoking is a habitual habbit if that makes sense lol, most people get an urge when they have a cup of tea, or go in the car, or after dinner - most of the time it's not because they want one.

good luck!!

Will power will power is whats required, you have to seriously 100% want to stop and be a non smoker

I tried loads of times over the last 5 years being a smoker for 25 years on 30-40 a day, tried the pills, the patches, cold turkey, inhalers all failed

Been of them now a year, took patches and serious will power, made a life changing decision that i no longer wanted to waste over £2k a year, smell like an ashtray, be 1 of those sados sparking up on the tarmac the minute you touch down on hols, clothes stank, cock drooped lol, huffing and puffing feck it all, now in training to regain stud status lol ran a half marathon and getting fitter by the day

Good luck with chucking the , don't be a slave to them or the manufacturers you don't need them

Champix ~ The doc put me onto Champix 2 years ago and on the second day I took a major allergic reaction. I have never been allergic or sensitive to anything beforehand and since have heard that allergies to Champix are common.

Now I have to carry epi-pens around with me all the time as my first reaction was so bad and I needed emergency medical help, I cannot risk triggering another attack.

Chapix does have a good success rate though in comparrison to other products.

Nicotine elevates the dopamingeric levels within the brain, so smokers seek to get that from cigs. Nicotine patches gum etc raise the dopamine levels within the brain once taken, but gradually as you reduce the level of patches gum etc you get used to the slow drop in dopamine levels.

Champix directly aims at blocking this rise from smoking, so its different from patches etc. When you initially start on Champix, you are required to continue smoking.. But the nicotine does not elevate the dopamine levels due to champix blocking this action within the neural system. This causes you to get 'used' to the angnostic effect, where smoking no longer gives the rise and therefore your brain no longer seeks the reward pathway generated from nicotine.

mike, here, good luck with stopping, i used the gum 2mg, nearly got hooked on that as well, I found that if i changed the route i drove to work, the times i stopped for lunch etc ,just the routine things this helped, i also mentally visualised my lungs and pictured them getting more pink every day, its hard but millions of advantages if you make it through

all the best

Steve, I (Rose) am now on day 6 since having my last smoke.

I was smoking 20 a day up until last Monday.. Tuesday I decided to stop. In my drawer I still have my cig packet with some cigs left inside. I have not touched them. Also the ashtray is in the drawer, with some butts in. Each time I open that drawer for something, the smell of stale smoke is literally disgusting.

How have i stopped?

I decided that everything was an excuse 'oh i will stop next week after i have done...' Oh i will stop on that monday after this happens..''

I kept making excuses, any excuse would do.. but they were just excuses.

I had enough of making excuses.

Thistle does not smoke.. I felt awful knowing how bad I always smelt to him..

SO my coping strategy..

I know each day is hard, and this week I have been throw a significant amount of stress as well.. But each time I get a craving, and they do happen often.. I say to myself 'ok is this the best you can do? is this as hard as it gets? is this all you can throw at me?'.. I challenge the craving not by attempting to ignore it, but by saying 'bring it on'..

I have some NiQuitin Minis here as well, and I have prob only had between 1-3 a day and thats it.

I know the cigs are in the drawer, I know I can reach for them.. I know they are a crutch.. but right now I can walk without crutches and I am taking each day as it comes and when i am struggling to face the whole day, I take each hour as it comes.

Maybe this will help you, I am not sure.. But know that others know what it feels like.

Rose x

I stopped smoking for 5 years using only will power!

Stupidity I started again.

Champix do work, but a level of will power is also required.

You've made the first positive step, the will to stop, I hope you succeed.

Bippy xx
