Their are two types of cold,

1; viral

2; bacterial

Antibiotics will get rid cold No.2 but is not given out as by the time tests are done to find which type of cold you have its usually gone

Also, for the average healthy person you just fight it off, cheaper for the health service and pharmaceutical companies make a fortune.

If you have an impaired immune system then doctors will put you on antibiotics right away, this fights off bacterial colds and and prevents secondary infection from both 1 & 2

by secondary infection, it means it helps stop chest infections setting in which can be a killer in people with reduced immune systems

some say antibiotics will not help, but ask any doctor and they will treat as above
