Couldn't make the game today as I was working but just watched some clips on Rangers TV!

Totally shocked me how bad he actually is and shows how horrible a disease motor neurone disease can be!

10 years ago he was voted by his fellow pro's the player of the year and today he struggles to walk!

Great turnout for the guy and a great cause to raise money for!

Shocking disease and tragic for the boy.

Nice of The Rangers to host a game for a player who used to play for another now dead club though

Not a fan of either club (Mr), but you would hope differences could be put to one side, for such a truly horrific disease. As usual though, some folk can't help themselves, shame on you.

Im a Celtic fan born and bred and i hated Ricksen when he played against us, but i have nothing but respect for both him and the entire Rangers community today, watched some clips from today and im not ashamed to admit i had a tear in my eye and a lump in my throat, was incredible to see his fellow players show up to be cheered on by a full Ibrox.....a proud day to be a football fan no matter what club you support.

A nice post and also don't forget that Celtic donated ten thousand pounds to the Ricksen Charity and also lost one if there best ever players to this horrible illness,Jinky, also there have been times when good Rangers and Celtic fans stand side by side and pay respect etc. Davie Cooper,Tommy Burns,Stillian Petrov etc .

as a Celtic fan that is a truly shocking and sad comment

Some people seriously need to get a grip!!

Obviously not a Celtic fan because if you were you would know my club was founded on giving to charity as we did to ricksons today

Truly shocking comment to make

Id have proudly stood in Ibrox today to applaud Fernando....no less than the man deserves, was always a scary moment when he was on the ball against us.

As another poster said,I'm Celtic, and Ricksen was THE Ger I really disliked as a player, but what's on the pitch stays there.

Awful, awful disease, that also did for one of the greatest Celts of all time.

Here's hoping one days there will be a cure.

The post was never about football it was about a man who represented my club and is now seriously ill!

Great points from the other half of the city and well done to the Celtic Charity foundation for giving a big donation! Let's not forget the same illness claimed a great Scottish Player in Jimmy Johnstone!

I also agree the footage would have brought a tear to a glass eye! Not me of course far to manly for that, I was chopping onions at the time standing in a cold wind! Right!

You sold any shred of dignity you had for what you claim is a dead club.

The absolute dregs of society.

I am proud that illness and death can span the sectarian divide, I remember Celtic had dignity and respect with the Ibrox diaster, I remember Walter Smith and Ally McCoist carrying Tommy Burns coffin and I respect Celtic charity foundation giving £10,000 today .......long may it continue....

You have just hijacked a thread showing sympathy to a gravely ill man.

You managed to deflect the subject to your own personal wanking fantasy.

Shameless.

Saw the highlights on Facebook. As celtic supporter all thoughts of rivalry were pushed aside to see this player (whom i met in real life btw) reduced to a shadow of his former self. Brought a tear to my eyes.

Hopefully someday a cure can be found for this horrible disease.

For the last time I poked fun at the club, not the man or his illness. The mock outrage among some is far more offensive and disrespectful than anything I said
