Glasgow

Hi all. Going through to Edinburgh for the night next Friday. Can anyone recommend any good pubs in the city centre? Good atmosphere, maybe a bit of dancing, not too pretentious? X

As we are also going it would be a good opportunity to meet up with fellow fabbers for a social drink. If anyone wants to meet up please feel free to get in touch with either bearhugs or ourselves xxx

Go to the grassmarket area of town. Loads of pubs to choose from and always guaranteed to be lively on a friday night.

Hi

Grassmarket is good for pubs better than rose street I think

but might be more of a choice on rose street which has a few pubs dotted around close by as well

If your going in the afternoon/early evening I would pick rose street, later on in the night the Grass market end prob better

No matter where you decide, you'll enjoy I'm sure.

Fancy posting an itinerary so a few fabbers might turn up? Or you prefer a wee private night out?

We would agree with Rose Street. Amber Rose in the West end of Rose Street then we love Milnes - up at the Rose Street level its a loud raucous Friday night pub with music etc; go down stairs and you can eat excellent food then through to the quieter Hanover Street basement bar area with its roaring open fire. Three pubs in one!

Also from Rose Street you can sample George Street but head back if its not for you!

Don't need to 'go see for myself'. Lived in Edinburgh all my life and whenever I'm out in town I go to the grassmarket. To say it's full of students is just utter bollocks. If you don't like the place, just say, no need to concoct a story.

Go to a pub called the ( Malt Shovel ) Cockburn st then follow road up and you will come to the Royal Mile few pubs around there, turn to your right at the top off road and walk up royal mile head towards castle and when you see royal bank left hand side go down that street then turn right now your in the grass market few pubs around there , hope that helps and enjoy your time in Edinburgh as I do every time I visit the place

Edinburgh

Born and bred Edinburgh here.

Morning.

Rose Street and Grassmarket are both good. George Street is a fiver a vodka and unless you do A G Bells or Standing Order. Amber Rose is excellent on corner of Rose St and Castle St. Avoid Huxleys unless you have just won the lotto.

Grassmarket - 3 sisters and last drop are my particular favourites. Usually a good mixture of people. Popular with stag and hen nights.

xx

You trying to say standing order is pretentious? Lol place is a shit hole. As are half the places on George street. Some places could be classed as pretentious but as a whole the street is average at best.

Totally agree, standing order and few others are certainly not, was referring too - Tiger, etc... I don't see them as pretentious... be disloyal if I did!
