Thanks man

I can't see myself beating that. I know some people do it in about 30 & I was also told I should be doing it in 20 so I wasn't sure what an acceptable time would be!

You must be a gazelle. It takes 5k for me to warm up. I do 2 miles timed trial in about 14:40 so thats about 5 mins per km. So your faster than me per k over a longer distance. Keep it up.

My best is just over 23 mins. I set the treadmill to 13kph and run at that pace the whole time.

Haha if you saw me I'm really not!! I'm not too graceful.

& to Kiwi, excellent effort, the treadrill I use is in mph so I sit at around 7.5 or 8 for the majority with a few bursts up to 11.5 & a couple of rests at 5 so I can add interval training to my 5k. You're still quicker though

The treadmill drags you along and assists, try it on a real road

Assists? If you couldn't keep up you'd fall off. I feel it assists me to push myself harder. Since I started running 5k in February I have took about 5 mins off my time.

Scientifically proven as i said try it on a real road and time yourself Then you'll need to try even harder to achieve the same time.

I don't need science mate, common sense would dictate that with the difference in the terrain and the fact the pace isn't being set for you would make it slower. Doesn't take a genius to work it out. I enjoy the surroundings of the gym but good luck with your road running

Very true.

Aren't you meant to have it at a slight incline to make it more like road running too?

Get off those roads and onto the trails. Much more fun and kinder to the knee joints.

Ran a 10k recently in 48 mins

I did do a 5k in 19 mins about 30 years ago. But I was a 23yr old semi pro boxer serving in the TA at the time

Sadly I'm not that dedicated! I'm just a casual runner who decided to do 5k instead of the standard 20 mins running. I have only done a 5k about 6 or 7 times, once a week with some long gaps of a month or more when I didn't bother. But I have got my time down from just under 25, so there's hope for me yet!

Listen some good advice from people in here. Don't need to be a dedicated athlete to perform well over any distance

I currently run 5k 3 days a week as part of an exercise regime I hate gyms and treadmills.

Build it up slowly over a period of time until your comfortable with the distance

Then what I do is sprint 100m, jog 200 then sprint 100 and then jog 200. Builds up my stamina

Surprising after 6-8 weeks you will have built an average rythmn to run at. Stamina levels will be good and sub 25mins will become the norm.

I remember being a middle distance runner at school having a role model of John Walker of NZ constantly going sub 4min for the mile

His fellow countryman Dick Quax held the 5k record of 13mins 12secs

We regularly ran a road race at school that was about 4k and I know my record was 14mins 22 secs at 16yrs old and there was about half a dozen guys faster than me

One actually has ran against and defeated John Walker over both 1500 and mile distances

Oh to be that fast again

My knees give out after 5k now
