I had a look at the page in question. Its full of comments by twats and half-wits, a measure of the kind of people that think he's a hero.

A guy who flips out with a gun is not a hero. To call him one is a complete distortion on reality

I dont believe Moat was nasty and evil. I believe he was mentally ill though. He certainly wasnt a hero however. Davie Narey, now HE is a hero

think about it though.

the ones on that site and calling him a hero will be guys that have been locked up etc and are total BAMS!! simple as that, they dont care about what he done or anything.

they just think it looks cool and big to all their mates in Jail. Half the 1s on it wil probabely have been locked up with him and are still there.

Davie Narey..someone get the tazer out lol

On the subject of Moat,he has killed one person and tried to kill two others...had one of those been YOUR loved one then im sure there would no facebook tributes, let the cowards who hide behind computers face the families of those who are now dead and say that Moat is a hero and see what the outcome is?

(my post is not intended for the OP)

Ok....having checked with my worn and tired cambridge english dictionary a hero is a person who is admired for having done something very brave or having achieved something great. So, there is no way that Mr Moat could ever fall into this category no matter how far you try and stretch things.

As for the Facebook page, it's a bit like the forums....a venue for debate and discussion. Just like here, people will have their own (however inane, ill informed or stupid we think they are)opinions and should be allowed to express them.

So we can all go there and express an opinion if we wish and I am sure it is not a page of 100% pro Moaty posts

Moat was no hero, mentally unbalanced probably,

The guy was a time bomb waiting to go off.

When he started to make threats to the Police to come get him I thought OK here goes Gunfight at the OK Corral.

Guy did exactly what I expected, shot himself like a coward, when the chips were stacked against him.

He made threats and instead of going out with his gun blazing in a torrent of bullets, he went out like a damp squib.

HERO......... NO CHANCE

Heroes are dying every day over in the Middle East fighting terrorism.

Not a playground bully who has his toys taken off him.

i mentioned deluded cos if i read your post correctly (which granted i may not have) it is asking do we agree with the eejits on facebook who are potraying this animal as a hero!!! what my use of the word deluded has got to do with you serving in the gulf fuck knows....but anyway based on my interpretation of your original post i used that word. apologies if i read it wrong.......gladly it has since been removed, not by facebook, but by the person who set up the page, according to a recent bulletin on the radio

Him a hero ?? .............your bloody kidding !!

Folk barter the word "HERO" around far to easily these days, and sadly it cheapens those who truely deserve to be called HERO's, as in the guys in Afganistan , Falklands ...those who pay the ultimate price , and those who with no concern for thier own safety make sure that more of our boys do not have to !

I think anyone who thinks this man is a hero should be taken by the police see the police officer and look at that police officer and then say he is a hero.........the man was shot twice and blinded.....let them hear his story....every gory detail of it straight from the officers mouth face to face.

All those steroids etc, he coulda been put on the "Bill Hicks" version of Gladiators,(god hope some know that sketch),lol,as an alternative to prison like, The Bill Hicks version of Gladiators, was, ermm very like the Roman style of Gladiators, as in theres no "going through to the next round", you'd have all the numb nuts who worshipped him in facebook waving banners etc, make great television that would.

Just a suggestion, lol

"Ok....having checked with my worn and tired cambridge english dictionary a hero is a person who is admired for having done something very brave or having achieved something great. "

Heres a thought...Everyone has been asking how could he be called a hero and I, like everyone, have been struggling to figure out what possible reason there could be for calling this sick, unhinged, murderous individual, a hero and Stu's definition made me think....

If the definition of Hero is 'someone who has achieved something great' then surely to a certain class of individuals i.e criminals and low-life scum who have no respect for the law, he has done something great...he has killed and maimed! Its like someone who goes out for a run every night after work admiring the olympic gold medalist in the marathon...they have achieved something that 99% of people wish they could do and in the case of Moat, he did what 99% of the scum and criminal class wish they could do, shoot someone, maim a police officer and then give them the runaround for a week before managing not to give them the satisfaction of capturing and making them look pretty stupid in the process.

Its not right to the normal person like you and I but I'm just throwing in my tuppenceworth as to why they might be doing it.

Just to clarify, in case anything gets mis-read, as can often happen on here...I do not, in anyway what-so-ever, think this man is a hero. He's sick, clearly needed medical help, deranged and I'm only sorry he took his own life rather then face his victims and the family of the deceased!

On a slightly lighter note...did anyone hear the interview that a pissed-up Gazza gave to Real radio after turning up at the siege-scene claiming to know Moat and bringing with him A dressing gown, a can of lager, some chicken, some bread and a fishing rod so they could sit down and fish and talk about it!!! Absolutely priceless!! If you haven't heard it, google it!!
