We had an ottoman on our landing. At the time I just thought it was a seat where my mum kept loads of shit, not knowing it was called an ottoman!

All the time growing up I actually thought a stair landing was called an ottoman

I also use to think my "posh" neighbour flicked a switch at night and put on the greet lights haha

My great gran had a comode but told me it was an ice cream maker. I should point out i was about 4 at the time.

Just as well i never asked for a cone, lol.

My Granny told me that the 'To Let' sign stood for a building for sale/rent that had no toilet!

I believed this up until I was about 15!
