I recall being an angry young man watching the news footage of the massacre 25 years ago and will never forget the image of a single brave man holding up a column of tanks.

the fight for democracy in countries like China should be a reminder that we here are lucky to have the democratic rights (and responsibilities) we enjoy.

The interesting thing is, from what I've read about this over the years, it might be an iconic moment to the rest of the world but to the young people of China, it barely registers as an event, let alone an iconic image.

I think huge censorship issues are mostly to blame for that but also the fact that so much of that went on in China without us ever getting to find out about it because no one was there to film or photograph it and once the moment has passed, Chinese people got on with things.

I agree about being grateful for what we have in the west though, definitely.
