What a joke, how many hrs does the police need to survey the road before clearing the obstruction?

Heard on the traffic news earlier, sounded pretty horrendous.

And I'd agree, why does it take them so long to suss out what happened etc? And at the evening rush-hour too!!

Was caught up in accident this morning

Tonight when passed st 5pm dtill hadnt fully cleared the lorry from the scene where still loading part onto a trailer to takeaway tail back was right back to stirling slip road

I'm sure the police just luuurve being out on a motorway shutting lanes for hours longer than they need to! (Note the sarcasm)

Why do people think they know how to do the jobs that others train to do ???? do you tell your dentist / hairdresser / plumber how to do their job? Police get too much stick - damned if they do and damned if they don't - say they opened the road earlier (in accordance with how long you think it should take to clear the road and assess the incident) and they have failed to collect a sharp piece of metal. Consequences? Burst tyre, further accidents!

And no I'm not a police officer

I am not a policeman either but I do know that if there is the potential of anyone involved dying it becomes a crime scene

Yes and I fully appreciate the issues but I also know in some of the EU countries they have a policy of quickly collecting evidence and laser scanning the site, then get it open again quick. a balance of risk judgement .

I think it all depends in the severity of the accident, if it's a death, then I can understand the road being shut for hours. I'm sure the road traffic police try there best to get the road back to norm.

I was caught up in it this morning too. I took an alternative route via kilsyth and through bearsden before arrivng at the airport an hour late. The joys, I hope no body died out there!

Investigations,are required if , fatal or potential, serious injury, crime scene, investigations into condition of hgv, vosa, drivers hours, possible hazardous loads. The lists endless, just be glad none of you were driving or injured. Its a small amount of time out of your life.

I'm well aware of the "damned if they do, damned if they don't", but I very recently read about this very subject re the time that the police close roads.

And as has been suggested here, I believe it is a fact that the police in some mainland European countries do the same operation in a fraction of the time taken by UK police.

But of course, here in Britain we do things properly, the Germans etc do it all wrong!! Aye rite!!

Not so long ago, a young girl jumped off the new bridge south west of Bannockburn. I passed her draped body, half an hour after she died. The radio explained the circumstances later on. If a road is closed due to any accident or fatality so be it. Nothing worse than gawping drivers slowly going past.

Shakes head at the original poster - people doing there job to figure out what happened and why - someone had to be cut out a vehicle so i suppose they should have to get their finger out too? - disrespectful as there may have been a fatality, if that was one of your family members or a friend would u want them to get their finger out too?

They do things differently in Europe because they have different equipment - so your complaint should be about how under equipped the police here our not about the people on the ground struggling to do the job with ever decreasing resources!

Budget cuts in police service Scotland are horrific - I have a friend who can't even get essentials without a fight (uniform / stab vest / high visibility gear)
