Was speaking to a couple earlier who asked me to go round to theirs, when I asked if they had kids they said yes but they are in bed so it's ok.

Apart from the fact I'm totally creeped out and repulsed, am I supposed to phone Social Services?!

It's not an ideal situation but not against the law. If it doesn't sit well with you then a simple thanks but no thanks should suffice

A while ago a fb and i met a lady who had her wee girl asleep upstairs. If i had kids i wouldnt particularly want to have people over however i can understand her choice as not everybody has access to a babysitter and maybe a meet is the only time she gets some downtime to herself

I have children and it makes me very cautious about who gets near my house. So only people ive met before and trust would ever get a late night invite. Its not ideal but sometimes the only chance some have. Personally id feel uncomfortable with a stranger even on my own. That said someone you know could just as easily be an ax murderer!

I wasn't actually going to phone social services......you all appear to be very concrete thinkers on here!

I don't have kids myself but I would imagine regardless of whether I was single parent or whatever the last thing I would do is bring strangers round to their home and put vulnerable people in a potentially dangerous situation.

I have no idea myself of the background of the couple doing the inviting, I imagine if the SW had previous concerns raised about the kids or the parenting that information could actually help them build a case.

Judging by the response to this post which appears to have offended some users (not sure why tbh) suspect this will be my first and last posts in the forums.

We have three kids between us 2 that are old enough to stay overnight at friends one who isnt. And we have had social meets whilat youngest is upstairs sleeping. We only do this with people we previously have met or have been chatting to for a while.

I don't really see what the issue is. I'm sure the parents know the kids sleeping routine. Some kids get outta bed when they wake up during the night and some just shout etc I'm sure they weren't going to allow the kid to walk in on you having fun.

I would doubt very much that folks will be offended by your post, and whether you post again is up to you. But in your op you asked 'am I supposed to phone social services?' I merely asked what you expected social services to do

I have kids and wouldn't invite people I didn't know over if they were asleep. But that's me and my choice. Everyone's different though I guess.

It's not illegal though lol. In some ways it's not very different to just meeting a new prospective boy/girlfriend and inviting them over...

Usually too bloody busy running around like headless chickens trying to protect kids that are being neglected and abused, usually with hands tied behind your back, no resources and in the firing line for everything that ever goes wrong.

But despite that, I'm sure SW would check out a potential concern regarding kids, but can't guess whether it would be followed up or not. Depends what was found I suppose

Aside from the fact that it was a throwaway joke, if concerns are raised about a child they are duty bound to investigate even if it may be "trivial". If they didn't investigate and later it turned out a child was harmed and concerns raised, then presumably it wouldn't look so good

If the child is not at risk of harm and not witnessing the event the risk is low but maybe a chat about setting appropriate boundaries.

I am in no way advocating that the parents were right but I didn't take the Op original post to be a joke and it's always easy to blame social work for everything

I agree that it's very inappropriate that the children were present but what I dispute is that it's a child protection case if the children were tucked up in bed and not witnessing anything. It could even be argued that the parents shouldn't have sex at all if the children are on the premises

At the same time I do acknowledge that not everyone has the support to have their children looked after by other people to allow them to have a sex life.

Maybe they're a bit stupid and just didn't think of the danger of it. When you want your hole all logic and sense goes out the window

It's inappropriate and can see where the OP is coming from with the social services joke comment. I'd be a bit more creeped out rather than worried about the kids safety though.
