Jusy been reading the paper and im totally shocked 1in 5 children in scotland r officially living in poverty,4in5 scottish cancer patients have to pay on average 420pounds per month because of their illness, 1 in7 children do not have a winter coat ,65,000 will be in poverty by 2020,25% of cancer pstients cant afford to heat their homes,my god surely we cant allow this to go on its time we stood up to this goverment snd let them know we will not and should not be treated like this ,this post is not about the referendum as im sure there r parts of england just as bad off as us just think its time ppl started to take poverty serious in the uk as a whole and make a stand against the con-dems before ppl starve and freeze to death because of their cuts ,and they say we r all.in this together ?these statisticts are given by,mcmillan cancer support, shelter, child poverty action and chas all charitable organisations.

The migrants from Europe get treated better without even having contributed to the welfare state.

I agree with you that this is a shocking situation to be in.

I dont agree that its totally about the con-dems, i think its more about our socio-economic systems, which serve select areas and elitist groups.

One of the big problems is that most of the people in positions of power and influence within politics, civil service and the corporate world have a vested interest in maintaining the status quo.

as a result changing the way we function as a society is very difficult to achieve.

I think this is 100% spot on. It doesn't matter who is in government, until we learn to look after the people in this country first, and that includes pensioners as well as kids/families and cancer sufferers, every single politician is to blame as they are ALL the same.

there are a lot of red herrings regarding migration, including the official figures.

the truth is we have no system for counting people coming in/out the government use guesstimates.

another is that the majority of the main stream media concentrate on the bottom end of migration, they ignore the very wealthy like the saudi prince who bought a number of London properties for himself, his extended family and entourage, injecting an estimated £300m in one go.

Add to that there are figures which show the net contribution to our GDP by immigrants outstrips the government expenditure on immigrants.

dont believe all of the stuff you read about migration.

I rarely take anything read as form, i walk out my door and see it first hand, immigrants come here to be better off and i as a tax payer are funding them whilst those in dire need are ignored.

Part of the country without having ever contributed ?

Your post is government related if you cant see how much is dwindled on immigrants and keeping them then your sadly misguided.

people have always migrated in order to be better off, its in our nature. Including our history of british people emigrating and colonising much of the world, what goes around comes around.

as for funding immigrants, the net balance shows that immigrants as a whole contribute more than they take out.

so while some are being funded, some are helping to fund the services you receive.

But this is taking the thread off topic, if this is something you feel strongly about, start a thread to discuss it.

this is totally my point surely we cannot allow this to continue, there comes a time when we all have to stand up for the less fortunate and that time is now.

the sad truth about our society is that most people will only respond to things which affect them directly, the rest of the time they wait for someone else to do something.

britian was at her peak during the victorian era. poverty was at its peak during the victorian era. the thinking must be...make more poor people to make the country great again. now please vote tory/ or new tory light (labour).

poverty in this country is indeed shocking. We as a nation allow our fellow neighbour to go hungry yet we convince ourselves we care. Our country is ever changing and part of this process it seems is hunger and despair for many families. There had been a 300% increase in the use of food banks as a result of changes in the welfare system. rightly or wrongly this is causing real issues for families not just in Scotland but across the UK. We go about our business somewhat blind to the plight of others as we have our own issues to deal with. Until people begin to notice our fellow man and help out won't change. It certainly isn't helping with the amount of people arriving on our shores wanting a better life n who can blame them but the knock on effect from this and the strain our system is under, is buckling from the pressure and as a result people are suffering greatly. We are living in a world where poverty is commonplace. Very sad and the machine with all its cogs can only turn for so long before its breakdown and the mechanic will not be able to fix it. Seems the elite have opted for their Mercedes and are content whilst us lada drivers will continue to be sat at the side of the road awaiting assistance which may never come.
