horses heids at grangemouth

Just been along the m9 for the first time in ages and got to grangemouth and what greeted me?

2 huge metal horses heads at the side of the motorway,i mean wtf do they represent and more to the point is this more of the taxpayers money being wasted on fuck all?

Not plonked on the side if a motorway though. It's the Helix project at the canal and it's estimated to attract thousands of visitors. I'll certainly be one of them when it's done. Looks stunning.

You could say that about any form of expression though. What's the point in football when there are people hungry. What's the Olympics all about? And music? Feck that, put the guitar down and get a real job there are people starving!

They actually stand either side of the new lock at the canal. They are opening in April and there will be a visitors centre built next to them later this year

I pass them everyday and think they're absolutely cracking. I'm looking forward to seeing the site when it's fully complete.

Exactly. I know not everyone gets art and I am the first to think wtf at some of the stuff I have seen in galleries but all I thought when I saw these for the first time recently was that they are awesome. Come up the M1 past " The Angel of the North" surely that stirs some emotion too??

I'd be astonished if anyone ever specifically travelled to see the Kelpies or the Angel of the North or the Clydesdale overlooking the M8.

Drive past and look? Yes, but make a special trip? Ah hae ma doots.

BTW. The Falkirk Wheel is well worth a trip to see.

I've watched them from being a hole in the ground to what they are now. They were fabricated a mile away in Falkirk by a local company and paid for by money from Europe.

I think they are a great piece of engineering and they look good too, just wish they'd hurry up and finish the rest of the helix park

About 20 years ago, a monstrosity, was put up overlooking the old A1 Motorway on Tyneside, the Angel of the North, at the time it cost £1,000,000 for a steel sculpture, supposedly based on the sculptures body- well it was a monstrous waste of taxpayers' money, then and now- overlooking a bloody motorway is just ridiculous

And they never even painted it.....!! "Outraged of middle Scotland." As said previously, some get art and some dont.

I think they're amazing! Whether they're art or not remains to be seen but as a statement, they're brilliant! They're going to be a great centrepiece for the Helix once its finished.

For the last 12 months I've been working in the east and travelling from the west. Passing by twice a day I too have seen them rise is stature. I think they look great, however, maybe the £1M or whatever they cost could maybe have been better spent. Nonetheless they do look awesome and I hope they do attract sightseers to the area

As a fellow traveller, from the west to the east I too watched the construction progress. For a industrial central belt, the Clydesdale, big heeds, pyramids are all visions of art worth creating.
