Too many great films to pick just one, i tend to have favourites from a range of catagories/genres.

but recently i have been impressed by two steve coogan films philomena and what maisie knew.

I agree with Bino, I have favs from all different genres and a lot of films with special personal meanings to me. But a great fav is City of Angels....romantic hokum....but great soundtrack and some lovely touching moments. And Nicholas Cage of course.........

i thought 12 years a slave was ok,its a fantastic story of course and the performances by michael fassbender and lupito nyongo were great, but i felt it lacked something that i couldnt quite put my finger on.

that said its definitely worth watching and i will be reading the book.

think your right about that, also that the movie world (especially hollywood studios) tend to exaggerate aspects of fictional characters. Larger than life escapism makes for good box office figures but not necessarily great or classic films

Got too many to really have one. But Once Apon A Time In America is fantastic and Id say it could almost be better than The Godfather!!! Road to Perdition is no3 in the gangster set.
