Ayrshire

Looking for you fabbers to give me an insight into social events. Fed up with time wasters & would like to attend a social event. Id like to meet genuine likeminded people at one of these events. I presume most people will already know each other & mostly be couples.

Ayr

There are lots of different Socials advertised and also drink nights. Yes a lot of people know each other but there is also a lot of people that know no one when they first attend. It was the first time for everyone at some point.

You do get out of them what you put in. If you are prepared to chat to people get to know them then yes it is a fantastic way to meet like minded people and also gives others a chance to meet you with no presure on them.

As Miss D says there are a few advertised at the moment and she has been kind enough to list them for you.

If you've never been to any social, it doesn't matter which one you go to, or who has organised it, you will ALWAYS feel welcome and have a great time, single or couple

Excuse our ignorance but what exactly is a social? Is it just a meet up in a pub kind of thing?

Usually you announce your interest on the relevant thread, the organiser contacts you with payment details, you pay a small deposit (prevents a lot of timewasters taking places and not showing up). Then a day or two before you'll be told the exact location of the venue - to avoid people leaking the details and you turn up.

When you get there you meet lots of great people, have a drink, a chat, a dance, a laugh - but NO sex (although it has been known afterwards at private venues )

It's just a chance to meet like minded people in a social setting

Yeah yeah, I know right???? :-

These venues only have limited numbers so paying a fiver or tenner deposit or towards the cost of hiring the place is a cheap night out, in pleasant company and fairly safe in the knowledge there shouldn't be any hassle.

And if you need a hotel, the organisers will know the closest ones and will be able to tell you weeks in advance about them.

But they only give out venue details in the last 24-48 hours

I drove to and from the Xmas social and drank all night. Same with the last Stirling one in November.

The one I organised for last night was a drinks night but most socials are more like a private or a birthday party.
