Please excuse my ignorance. Is there an difference between the two. I think there is but Im wondering if I have made an ASS out of U & ME, by thinking that the letter in the middle is important?

Thats what I think too, but asked someone and they disagreed saying it didnt matter. So thought Id ask everyone.
