Inkdependent are really good so is Morag at Tribe in Broughton Street. Theres always Spacey's in the grassmarket as well, he always seems to be at all the tattoo conventions.

Choose really carefully though!

Take it to all the shops mentioned, see what they think.. and ask to see an similar work they've done.. if they won't show you, walk away, and judge from what you've seen.

Everyone likes something different, has their own opinion. Only 'best' if you like it. What you like other people may hate. Easier to do your own research and make your own mind up.

Obviously check out the photos of previous work. It's often the case that the pics still show the glowing/tender skin shortly afterward which looks shit in my opinion. Better if you can see what it looks like after it has heeled.

There was a tattooist near me who was garbage, scarring, lines that weren't sharp. Truly awful. It's a huge commitment to yourself body art so choose an experienced shop. And if it costs more there's probably a good reason; They are good!

Ps all baby tattoos look like "Chucky"

Good tattos are not cheap and cheap tattoos are not good so my advice to you is to take your sweet cotton picking time in deciding your artist and artwork as its for life and I've lost count of the amount of people I've encountered that have regretted getting an ex partners name tattooed on their neck or a red devil tattoo or who have let one of their mates go to town on them with pen ink and a sewing needle or a cheap tattoo kit off ebay without any previous experience lol if you have any queries then feel free to let me know

Cheers folks- I'm being very picky about who gets to ink me and I'll definitely be chatting with a few folk and seeing past work/sketches before committing. Good to hear some familiar names though!

Different tattoo artists specialise in different styles some specialise in traditional, Japanese, black n grey or realistic. Lots of artists work you will be able to see online, go along to studio and discuss with them but expect to have a fair old wait as If they are good they will be very much in demand and waiting list can be anything up to a year

Check out Ace on Gorgie Road. Nearly everyone I know with ink has been done by Billy or his son at some point. Award winning, 3o+ years experience ... All on the website. Hope that helps. Sx
