Scammers and benefit cheats do my nut in but this type of programming is slowly but surely making the public equate being unemployed with being a doley scumbag. Just my opinion I'm sure many will disagree lol " and the the way things r going under this goverment its only going to get worse and we r going to have a lot more streets like this

"There is no doubt that places like this exist all over the UK, but before we go getting on our high horses let's consider other issues. Firstly is this a ploy by the Tories or any other political party to score points. They seem to try and rile the mass public by showing a small percentage of shall we call for this debate "benefit cheats" so we all get so annoyed that we actually start to believe their propaganda. Maybe it's society as a whole that should look at its self letting people fall into this way of life. Secondly this is the same government that allow Multi national companies such as Starbucks and Amazon to trade in this country and pay next to no tax, so it's ok for a Multi national company to exploit the system but not the chancer on the street. By writing this post don't for a second think I'm in support of every benefit cheat and scammer out there, I like to look at the bigger picture, we can't crucify one section of society and let others away with what in my eyes is worse. Propaganda tv that seems to be working. Viva la revolution " I concur entirely !

"My son tried to give an unemployed person a job recently. He spoke to the jobcentre and had people sent out to him for a trial. First chap turned up 45 minutes late and told my son that he didn't want the job but wanted my son to sign his form saying that he had turned up and was unsuitable for the position. Second person did turn up and worked for three days then never re-appeared. Third person never turned up at all. Fouth person turned up on time and was smelling of drink at 8:00am!! He was given simple tasks to do and failed every one. We reckoned that he didn't want the job and deliberately messed up the tasks so that he wasn't asked to come back. I also know a couple that haven't had a job between them since 1980!! They told me that they don't want a job as they would lose their housing benefit so would have to move house. Who's the mug here???" Totally understand what your saying, and don't defend the actions of people with no interest in helping themselves. Consider this, is it financially beneficial for people going for this position rather than staying on benefits. I know not a strong argument, but at the end of the day it comes down to how much disposable income they have at the end of the month. My suggestion and this is talking from previous experience, making opportunities more appealing. Training schemes without prejudice and believe me they exist. Many years ago after being made redundant, I applied for a position working and training that would give me a qualification that would stand me in good stead for the future. I was told because I wasn't unemployed long enough I didn't qualify. A friend of mine was told he couldn't apply for a position because it was aimed and a certain age group. It's the system that is broke, fix this first then moan about people who don't want to better themselves.

"Didn't watch it bit going by the posts we can see exactly where it's coming from. Smoke and mirrors demonising those on benefits and directing the general publics ire towards that so called drain on the countries finances. The cost of dodgy, and Immoral, benefit claims is a drop in the ocean compared to the amount of money that is owed to the country by big corporations. It's easier for the Tories to screw the poor though than to chase up the Companies half of them have probably have shares in. "

The poor always pay the highest prices for everything.

I was thinking the same it was just The Scheme but set in England. They didn't make a second series it was 6 or 7 episodes long but was pulled after 2. The remaining shows were aired about a year later with a extra "where are they now".............surprisingly half the participants didn't take part due to jail or claims the program makers made them look bad.

"Benefit Street, has no more value than that other television dross Celebrity Big Brother, giving work to has-been celebritys, who lost out in the fame game " I'm sure that made sense when it was written.
