Mysterious East v Wicked Wild West

Jump to newest

By (user no longer on site) OP

Let me start by saying this is a LIGHT HEARTED THREAD and it is in no way my intention to cause civil unrest at this time of peace and goodwill!

A certain gentleman from the west, of my long and happy cognisance, has been known to refer to my good self as "a typical east coaster". The inference being that in the east we are a little "different". From the inhospitable.."You'll have had your tea?" , to the suggestion that perhaps, dare I say , we are a little bit up our own bottoms! While people from the west are perceived to be more couthy and humorous.

For my part....I see some glaring differences.. Edinburgh has a nice big castle..Glasgow has ...a green! Edinburgh a world renowned arts festival...Glasgow ...the Krankies.

Don't misunderstand me...I love all things weegie. I've even kind of adopted one...I'm only seeking to find your take on a subject I find both amusing and interesting. We may all be "Jock Thamson's bairns" but do we really see life differently? After all...east or west... Scotland's best.

So....the East/West divide...does it really exist or is it a myth.....what differences (if any) do you observe?

Keep it nice remember! Weegies have feelings too..... Jintz

In Ireland cèrtåîn folk would slag us from the West

Dublin is East so alö? from outside of Dublin would just class us all (esp on the west as rednecks/culchies/farmers)

Doesn't bother us we'd buy and sell them

The majority of Scottish national football team fans come from the East coast whilst those on the West coast support England and the ROI.

I would say that for starters we (in the west) are civilised folk as we have Salt and Vinigar on our chips and not salt and sauce (brown sauce at that).

We do have a castle in Glasgow, Crookson Castle actually. We also have some of the best public museums in the UK (free of course to the general public).

We have a fantasic river that runs through the city which has seen some of the greatest ships in the world being built on her banks.

Oh and one thing we dont have that Edinburgh does have and you can keep it, is a Tram system but we do have the 2nd oldest subway system in the world.

Thats for starters..............

Chortle chortle, allow me to translate into something more akin to morningside

the good people of coatbridge are afraid that associating with the good people of the east coast may result in them being compelled to replace the popular delicacy of buckfast tonic wine with prosecco or some other fine wine.

I wonder just how many of them are actually from Edinburgh or are simply there for the time-honoured Edinburgh tradition of taking the money.

In truth, Edinburgh is an OK place. Shops on both sides of the street would be a bonus and they could have built the castle a bit further from the Princes Street but otherwise sawrite, ken?

I live in Edinburgh but spent a year working in Weegie land. Until then I thought that it rained in Glasgow every day. After that year I knew that it did.

All of that said I just love my time sailing on the Clyde

scotland

West coast has too many west coasters there,i think there is only a mentality problem with west coast,i dont find generally any real differences! Have met all sorts of folk (generally) from all over the country.

My take on it is....we're all the same but there are little idiosyncrasies that should be embraced and cherished x A "typical east coaster" I may well be...and I have to admit I do enjoy the ribbing I take and have also been known to retaliate..... but I DO appreciate my "westies" xxx

Had a very brief foray into the Angus glens a few years ago, it's an area I'd love to return to.

I could say a plague on both your houses lol, but I have good friends in both cities so wouldn't dare. Besides everyone knows that it is the north that is the best, beautiful Angus and perthshire , rustic fife and delicious dundee. Even aberdeen had its good points lol
