Stopping smoking....

Jump to newest

By (user no longer on site) OP

Been on my mind that i`d want to stop smoking for a good while now,, but always been putting it of as willpower was never my strong point...

Then for some reason after talking to a non smoker on here who caught my eye and my interest i thought... F**k it!! i`m going to try...

last cigarette sunday night 11pm....

managed a whole day yesterday without a fag and the reward was a meet with the fab one who kinda inspired me to give up,,,,

today still smoke free too!!!!

Won`t lie it`s bloody hard, the desire and cravings still there but it`s mind over matter,ok with a touch of chemical help ( NRT tablets)...

Just wanted to in a way say how proud of myself that im managing to break this habit, told my daughter this morning that i`d managed a day without fags and she was so happy she burst into tears in my arms...She hated me smoking and seeing her like that this morning was like a big slap in the face to say what have u been doing!!!!!

between that and my new friend i`m going to try even harder to stay off them now...

Fingers crossed big time!!!!!!!!

Well done doc!!! I've been totally smoke free for nearly 8 weeks now. I just decided one day that I'd had enough, stuck on a patch and haven't looked back!

About a week ago, I'd had a niggly feeling for about a week that I really wanted one and thought have one and get it over with so went and bought some and you know what? Took a couple of drags and realised just how awful they tasted (obviously my taste buds have recovered!), thought 'how the hell did I ever take this up in the first place', threw it away and haven't thought about it since!

It can be tough, especially the first few days but stick at it mate and it does get easier! Well done!!

Best tip i got to get stopped was a mental goal whereby you tell yourself it gets easier after 2 weeks, i did the patches and crumbled, so went cold turkey with just this in mind, that after 2 weeks the urge to have a fag is less, therefore it gets easier, but hells bells, you count the days and prey it is true but guess what, it does and did, good luck, hope you can try telling self that too, found it a super goal/motivator to hang onto.

Good luck. I stopped on the 24th january 1994 and the date is still impregnated (wow thats a big word) in my brain. Never looked back. Smokers remind me of the old "ready brek" add with a ring round you.

That happens doc, try changing "tempt moments" if you used to reward se;lf with a fag when sat down after dinner,,well then dont sit down, break habits,i used to reward myself a smoke nearly every delivery i did, once had my hand searching the dashboard of van for fags that simply were not there!!!,lol, that shows how much an addiction of your mind it became/habit. Yep, avoid the situations that instantly you relate with lighting up where poss.

Day 7!!!!!!!!!

had a bit o a stressful day runnin all over fife area gettin spares for the car....

BUT also got a txt from someone i`d been chatting to on and off for a while who lived not far from where i was

so.... impromptu meet arranged and executed...

she knows i`ve quit so drowned herself in perfume and mouthwash etc....

BUT... her hair and skin still smelt of nicotine...and frankly it put me off

god i now see what non smokers meant a bout the smell... and thats just after a week!!!!!!

Your doing amazing. just remember the bad smell and the taste and you will manage. ive now been stopped for about 4 yrs but the smell still gets to me specially when ive been mixing on a night out with smokers as the next morning when u wake up all u can smell is fag reek on your clothes and hair. not a great turn on xxx keep it up xxx

Another wee motivator.

If you were to crumble, its quite scarey how quickly you get back to the same rate of consumption of the fags,we are talkin within hours, so if your thinking those dangerous thoughts of "hmm maybe if i just smoked less",,FORGET IT!!!

Stay stopped, gets easier after week 2, i promise!

well it's day eight now, threw the hundred fags i had here into the bin this morning. It's still hard work but i don't want to go there again after that smell of nicotine and smoke from yesterday ! I actually feel quite ashamed of how i must have smelt and tasted to a non smoker. anyway you guys are probably getting quite bored of me going on about this but i've had some nice messages in my mail box from members here and well if i'm telling you all how i'm coping i have you all there to kick my arse if i slip up. And i've no intention of letting you down. X

Well done and keep it up mate, it does get easier, ive just passed 10 weeeks but one of the big incentives for me now having been a 30 a day smoker is the money i am saving, thats just over £500 so far, so its a feck off holiday for me this year from my old fag budget

Stop smoking tip for diy Easter weekend. If you feel the urge then get some sugar soap and wash down one of your rooms you smoked in. Results will encourage you to continue to kick the habit.

good luck
