16 and full of dreams vivid pictures of battles won and fun times. too the victor the spoils!! join the army was the cry for queen and country was your reply. sign the dotted line with head full of pride you go tell your freinds and loved ones im off to protect our way of life and freedoms.

basic training the wakeup call many hardship as never before body weary they still want more. we will make a man of you they shout as another load is placed on your back. it will get better you say to yourself as you rest your head each night.

26 weeks pass with tortured body you pass out. it will get better you think as you salute the dias on way to a fortnights leave money in pocket head held high. im a soldier! now you tell your folks pride pouring from your nearest and dearest.

to your regiments the cry heart ablaze you board the train im a man now you say to yourself

arriving at the barracks feeling special left flank for this one billet and deploy.

the next yrs flash the torments the pains the indescribable pains on mind and body tortured by thoughts and deeds you now know the glorious pictures of victory were all a lie.no cheers or pats on the back just good freinds gone some no more than a plaque. as you lay in your bed year after year reliving those lost times praying that your the only one to experience these pains but knowing your not.

unable to talk unable to let the demons out you fight your way through life pretending your ok but knowing your not loneliness, heartache are your only freinds letting you know your alive and not a plaque like so many before. a man i am you say as you lay awake dreading sleep.

lest we forget its not just the dead we must remember there are living ex services men and woman who need your thoughts and donations wear your poppy with pride and dont just wear ................................................remember the sacrifices that all have made including the living

this is a story...................... but could so easily be true and is true for many

give what you can but most of all remember !!!!!
