There's a kind of 'posh' Scots accent favoured by those who are either Scottish by birth but have been sent to school in England or who are what we used to call 'white settlers'.

Cuts to the bone. Unfortunately, they're the ones who seem to get interviewed whenever the BBC/ STV ask about life in the Highlands.

I'm a scouser but been in Scotland for 11 years. Now when I go back to Liverpool those high pitched brassy scouse girl accents like I used to have sets my teeth on edge lol.

I LOVE a Dublin or Geordie accent, they are definitely panty droppers

Brummie is about only accent that grates. But being a bit of a nomad.....but settled now in the East, when I go back to Glasgow it's amazing how harsh it sounds. Very crass. I am more modulated as lived all over, and normally use my posh telephone voice when speaking. Lol. But I curse just like a weegie, and pray to him above, all in the same accent....

I am Glasgow nor and bred but have done a fair bit I travelling in my time

I do hate the gutteral accent from the Glasgow pill popping NED that that nauseating whiny slur they have.

The other one that doesn't head in is the female American. I hate switching in the TV and some female has a whiny broad US voice. Even worse is if she has a street New York one

I do like the Irish and a strong Scots, Neil Oliver style

The posh upper class English one is cool when she is begging you not to stop as is the Glasgow West End one

That 'public' (private) school accent all the toffs and aspiring toffs seem to have.... they all sound the same...

If you took say 12 kids at 5 years old and sent half of them to state schools and the other half to 'public' schools up and down the UK, from Lands end to John ' Groats..... after a few years the ones sent to state schools would have the accent of the area they went to..., but the ones sent to 'public' schools would all talk with the same accent... how does that work??

Do they get special elocution lessons so they can pick themselves out and avoid getting too close to the riff-raff?
