Domestic Violence

I have never condoned it....but the Government and Agencies always get my back up with this one!!!!

New advertising campaign launched targeting teenage boys urging them not to use violence against their girlfriends.

What about a campaign highlighting the abuse of men by their partners??

Did a dissertation a few years back on children as the forgotten victims of domestic violence. At that time the government's own figures were that 1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men had suffered domestic abuse at the hands of their partners.

So c'mon.....if you're gonna target one group to refrain from domestic violence...target the others too ffs!!!

domestic violence shouldnt be accepted no matter wether its against men or women and it is swept under the carpet far to often,

kids suffer too as they usually see and hear it. xkx

Having lived with domestic violence for 30years with my ex I whole heartedly agree Stu and Katy children are the forgotten victims in that situation.

I detest violence in any form, weird coming from an ex-boxer/martial artist but I hate unnecessary violence.

Domestic violence is the worst of all. I cannot understand how people who are supposed to "love" each other and their children but beat the living daylights out of each other every week and exposed the kids to it.

Prisons are full of violent arseholes, but this kind is one of the worst as already highlighted how many kids suffer.

There is a black and white silent film coming out to STV in April highlighting domestic violence called "The Tenement Ghost"

Shot entirely in Glasgow it tells the tale of a young couple just after WW1 who get married and he begins his abuse and torment from the offset, resulting in his murder at her hands.

As I slide uncontrollably into 'old age' spare a thought for the elderly victims of domestic abuse and violence.

Sometimes as innocent and as helpless as a child.

Sometimes infirm or confused, unable to stop or control in any way, violence directed at themselves or others.

Sometimes These people are often so grateful to be with family they overlook the abuse.

We didn't beat each other!! I was the only one with fractures and bruises and so little confidence and self esteem that I was brainwashed into believing I had no option but stay. Unless you've been there you don't know know how bad it is or the scars that never heal are.

ive lived with it for years its not pretty totally with u on this one self esteem gets a major kicking n takes a very long time to get over it

I agree, when I was with the police (not sting and co,lol) we went to a fair amount of domestics where it was the guy that was the victim. I did think at the time though it was the more serious attacks only that the men would report....been stabbed by wifey etc.

Maybe male pride would stop them reporting more minor abuse. Maybe we need to highlight that so there won't be a stigma for the guys to come forward more and report it?

loads more reports from men nowadays steve and police have the right to charge without eithers say so so big step forward for guys and wimen new helplines out for kids that suffer .pride always wins though not many want to admit to being pushed about or battered in most cases talking to strangers helped me through it xx

I experienced it where my ex put me in hospital for 3months ..........my family were great they got me a house, looked after the kids and slowly over the years my self esteem has returned, what i didnt agree with was my ex raped me repeatedly one night and the police classed it as domestic abuse and said it would of been my word against his as we were married.

Its an awful thing too live with and not so easy too get out of

Took me years to have the courage pleasurer and it hasn't been easy "BUT" no matter how tough it's been the end is now in sight and my divorce imminent.

ever had a cross word 2 say 2 each

I agree Foxi hun, you too know what I went through.

It takes years of being told it's your fault... you made him like this, to actually wake up and say one day... NO it isn't me, it's you who have the problems and issues.

That day is the first day of the rest of your life. xxxxx

My father was a d*unk and constantly abused my mother.

I am the oldest of 3 boys who have all stood up to him to protect our mum and ended up on the wrong side of a battering.

I left home at 16 cause I couldn't handle the constant rage.

Then one night my mum came to my flat, her nose was broke and she had cracked ribs.

I got her to hospital, only in my blind rage I put my father in there beside her. He had a massive heart attack whilst I was pummeling him.

I was charged and almost went to jail for it.

The barsteward survived.

Crazy thing is she went back to him, and if anything she now bullies him.

This seems to be a norm with some couples. It takes something like a near death experience for one of them to change the behaviour.

I have never got over it and still carry scars.

Shit I read this thread and actually called my mum to chat for nearly an hour this afternoon.

i class my self as being lucky my 1st marraige never had any violence in it we split because we had nothing in common anymore ...and my 2nd marraige to mr cassie is so happy i cant believe my luck ...but i have to say i admire how strong all the ladies and men who go and have come out the other side of abusive relationships..hold your heads up high n say well done to yourselfs....you all seem so strong from what i know of the few i have met..hope you dont mind my tuppence worth xxxx

After suffering for over a decade with my 1st husband, I am now very happily married to Mr G. After my personal experience I have been involved with domestic abuse charities for many years and can say over the years there have been many changes in the polices and publics attitudes, and the awareness regarding men being the victim is very much overlooked but after spending many hours on a helpline the ratio is still higher in women and also growing in same sex relationships. At the end of the day every person male/female adult/child should feel safe and secure but alas this is a crime that unfortunately will never stop.

I gave up on the police the night I was held against my will as my ex called the police to say I had broken into his house (where I lived) from then on they didn't listen to a thing I said, telling me it was my word against his. That seems to be their way out of anything nowadays. It's not the easiest thing to get out of, but when your lawyer tells you that it's your fault too!??

I'm just glad that I had already woken up to all the shit, and once I was finished with my ex with the help of a new lawyer, I set to work on the arsehole that was supposed to help me in the first place!

My point is, male or female, you have to have decided to sort it before anything will start to get fixed. No amount of campaigns will do it for you.

I suppose it just makes me all the more grateful for Declan... who does all the silly little things that matter, to make me smile...

ok now this is not a funny subject and this is not a joke but we do all forget the invisible member some times in a domestic .

The pets of a house hold can get abused as well , being fed cheap food not enough water in the bowl .

or even not being let out the house when their legs are crossed - so other than the humans in the family think of the pets

NOT turkeys they are just for xmas
