So close, yet so far away.....

The middle of the night and sleep eludes me once again so indulge me in this tale friends. This is a sad and reflective day for me. Twenty one years ago today I thought my life was over and I would never be happy again. My firstborn son lost his lifelong battle against chronic illness at the age of just four years. A happy, engaging child, he was an inspiration and sheer joy to all who came into contact with him. Life can be so unfair. So..although today I may wish to pull the duvet over my head and make it go away...i wont. I'll put on the full war paint and the best frock and celebrate the fact that even for a brief time he was mine. I'll remember the silly songs, sesame street, the walks along the beach with ice creams, the dressing up and the finger painting that adorned the walls, the furniture and indeed the dog! Music will play and I may well sing and dance for life goes on for I have found that no matter what befalls us hope and happiness are just around the corner if we have the patience and courage to look for it. Silly and frivolous I may be but that is because I know how precious the joyful moments are. Without the love and continuing support of my dear friends my life would be very different and I thank them for just being there. No matter what you are facing, and this life is indeed full of cruelties and injusticies...and we should continue to rage against them ... there is always tomorrow. So....if you are lucky enough to have those you love and care for close to you today....hold them tight, especially the little ones...for none of us know the moment it may all be snatched away.

Today may be tough....but tomorrow WILL be better.

Wow,not much more you can say to that,and it doesnt seem silly or frivolous in the slightest,always good remembering the good times,no matter how short they were.

Very touching post , no words can ease your pain , however good friends , positive people and a healthy thought process helps each of us through some really testing times in life. Thank you for sharing your personal story. My dear one...you always know the right things to say...but knowing me as you do...these sentiments are all the more touching. You are a very special man and i thank you from the bottom of my heart xxx

I can only thank you all for your kind words. Good people...with true hearts will always come through. We are all strong...we just dont know how strong until we are tested but the secret is not to become bitter and hardened and still feel the emotions that make us human. So yes...i may appear strong....but that is because i am surrounded by kindness. After consultation the family have decided that a teddy bears picnic is the order of the day...so yes...more cake for miss a.....and i'll have the bears' share too!!!!! x

Well...tomorrow is here and although my life seems to be spent looking back...its good things to look forward to today. I wish you all knew the difference your kind words made yesterday. It was a big decision for me to share my story...its so very deep and personal but you know, just the telling of it eased the pain a little. Acknowledging that..yes, it still hurts...but i cope.... as do the many other folk who deal with tragic loss day

in day out. So.. again...thank you. You helped me through. Love truly never dies.
