myself an Laine were thinking that any monies surplus after her social on the 19th will be donated to charities close to most of us on here

Last year, a friend of our's from Fabswingers lost her wee baby boy Alfie and is building up funds to buy a headstone.

As many of our friends will know, a breast cancer charity is also very close to laine's heart.

So, we were thinking of splitting the money between both of the above great causes.

wats your thoughts on this??

Thanks for setting this up Stunna. While I have been ranting at the Scotland rugby team you have been a busy wee bee!

Alfie was a wee one many forumites followed through his birth, short life and untimely death so we feel is deserving of our support.

Also as many of you also know, several of us (myself included) have been touched by cancer in it's many guises, especially breast cancer, and we will continue to raise funds for this insidious disease.

If anyone wishes to make a contribution to these worthy causes we shall be more than happy to accept them.

I thank you in advance for your generous support my friends xxxxx

p.s. I meant to add, Alfie's fundraising is a registered charity so have no fear if you donate for this it WILL all go to his headstone, thanks again. xxxxx

Jacs, Kitty is a single parent ages with my own daughter who has not had an easy life, she continues to raise her other wee Angel, her daughter alone.

I watch and play with my own grandson and I feel a lump in my heart, for this courageous woman who battled so hard to keep wee Alfie with us. xxxx

I just wish this lovely lass lived closer to give her the love and support she and her wee family could do with.

It's not easy losing a loved one, even harder having to go through it alone.

But us Scottish forumites will see her right. xxxxx

Have to say just went to the link stunna posted, have to say brought a tear to both hubby and my eyes - sad sad story. Our youngest son died at 3 months due to cot death and reading this well set emotions running hi. This site never ceases to amaze us that we are just all everyday people with a family life and everyday ups and downs and so nice to see the amount of fund raising that actualy goes on here. Can i ask any future fund raising you might consider supporting the Scottish Cot Death Trust fab Charity . Ya_hoos xxxx

This post just like others, has brought out some raw emotions in people, it shows what a common link many of us share in our everyday lives.

Through this site and the forums I have met some incredibly strong people and witnessed some fantastic support for each other.

Cant imagine the pain the loss of a child would bring , honestly think it would finish me , so nothing but admiration for those that have had to endure that suffering .

Maybe none of my business as I wont be at social so therefore wont be donating but IMO(which i wont go into but is kinda professional although still somewhat cynical i admit), any cancer research charity is a total waste of resources. There will never be a cure for cancer simply because there is far too much money in cancer research. Also monies given to cancer charities is never distributed as youd hope. Not saying there is anything dodgy, dont get me wrong but your efforts could be better served elsewhere. Only read the first couple of posts but seen the headstone mentioned which IMO would be a very nice and worthwhile cause. Dementia sufferers is another which i would support. A much more common disease then wed be led to believe and extremely underfunded. As i say, maybe none of my business given i wont be there so I hope my input doesnt offend anyone.

Mags, Laine, well done girls for highlighting both these charities.

We just buried a 13 day old girl on Friday.

Young boy close to my family, lost his mum 20yrs ago almost to the day. His mum and my wife were very close friends. We have been there for her 4 sons ever since.

One of the wives gave birth to a little girl mid January who was born brain dead. Her vital organs all collapsed over the brief 13 days of her life.

This thread has brought sadness to us all as it has hit a nerve with most folk on the forum.

I had planned a couple of charity events for 2010 to raise funds again as I almost lost my own son to meningitis. May divide the funds between more than the one charity this year.

Thanks ladies for posting this and yes wee Alfie's link did bring a tear or two,

I lost my mum to cancer on New Years Day this year and we can think of nothing more fitting than to keep supporting and funding any worthy cause that makes a difference. Keep up the good work guys. xxx

Cancer charities aren't always about research and cures. Yes cancer is something that will affect us all in our life at some point, either directly or indirectly, but the good that our support can bring to those suffering and their families does make the pain a wee bit easier to deal with. I'm not preaching just putting a different perspective on your thoughts maybe in respect of how donations can be used.

cure for cancer but some ppl do get better

an some dont..my sis passed away with

breast cancer an few of my friends 2

there for if u Dementia uve got it

u cant be cured of it so wats the diff

with cancer 2 Dementia...theres none oh

an my brother in law has form of Dementia.

It was a cancer charity that helped support my youngest son cope with caring for me. Two years after losing his father he thought he was going to lose his mum too.

They gave him counselling and taught him to live his life as a child again not as a carer. It was a bleak time for him.

These charities do far more than research and development.

I'm heartsore for the pain all you guys have been through. Thank you for sharing with us, and I hope if we can help in any way you feel you can ask any one of us.

cancer has tainted my family for generations and is doin so right now but the ones with it right now have more chance of survival or longer life due to breakthroughs with medicine and for that i am grateful i would gladly give every penny i have to research and detection.

dementia too is there and so many other things. our lives get touched with so many things its impossible to write them all but if my wee quid helps someone i will gladly give xx
